New Shocks

I bit the bullet and purchased a set of Super Shox for my 2017 Tri Glide.

It had a Legends lift kit installed when I bought it with the stock shocks.

The Super Shox's are the Premier Series 14.5 I'm probably going to have to change back to the stock shock mount plates.

My question is .......

On 2017 and up, when they started using the M8 engine, they made the catalytic converter longer and the exhaust touches the rear swing arm with the 14.5 shock.



Has anyone here just cut an inch or so off the converter pipe and the stock s pipe that slides on to the converter to achieve the clearance needed for the lift? I realize I'll have to add whatever I cut off to the other end so it will reach the muffler again, this is not a problem.

Otherwise, Super Shox sells a modified pipe that has a sharp bend down immediately after the converter for $120 bucks.

I have the same issue and I'm running 13.5 inch shocks. I don't think there is enough room to cut that much off the pipe after the converter and get it to seal with the 'S' pipe. I was looking at cutting off maybe 1/4 or 3/8 inch off the head pipe and maybe 1/4 inch off the "S" pipe and adding an inch or so to the end of the "S" pipe to the muffler.

Hi Ray,

I have about 2 1/4 inch's on the converter flange sticking out. The S pipe female flanged length is 2 1/4 also.

The band clamp is 1 1/4 so 1 inch could be removed from both pieces and still have the integrity of a stock application.

I was just wondering if I might be overlooking something before cutting up my stock stuff other then adding the inch back on the other end of the S pipe. Thanks

The problem is if you cut to much off the head pipe you need to be concerned about the mounting bracket in the rear. It only has so much room for the muffler to slide forward. I installed Pro Action 14 1/2 shocks on my 17, the swingarm was very close during the installation. But once it was setting back on the ground it gained plenty of clearance, remember as you add weight the swingarm travels upward away from the pipe.

Just an update.

I cut the exhaust header and S pipe as described earlier. Worked like a charm. Plenty of clearance.

The new 14.5 length shocks ride like a dream.
