Red face Rekluse clutch and DK lift

So just had a Recluse clutch and DK comfort lift with Nexgen shocks. All I can say is wow. It is my wifes bike. And sitting at stop signs was killer her hand. Her hands are way smaller then mine. So something had to be done. Also had a back rest installed. And the 1000 miles service done. Spent some money but I think it was worth it. The 1-2 upshift was a little tight when I first pick it up. Talked to the folks at Rekluse. Said that's normal for the first 100 miles or so. Took it out yesterday before the wife. After about 15 miles driving is the neighborhood's. Seem to get way better. She took it out after. She had no problems. Except wanting to pull the clutch in at light! The Dk suspension made a world of difference in how the bike handles and rides. We haven't had the chance to see how it does on the back roads. Will let you know after this weekend. For me having a back rest seems like a game changer. I have a Ultimate seat with back rest on order for my Can Am. Cant wait now.

I have a rekluse clutch on my 2020 TG. Really like it. Always shifting up gears, now, at low rpms without using the clutch lever action. Alway shifting down gears, now, at low rpms without clutch lever action. Always did that anyway with a regular clutch once in a while, but now it's all the time. Not saying the rekluse clutch is any better for up shifting or down shifting at low rpm's than a regular clutch. Since installing the rekluse clutch, it encouraged me more to start shifting without clutch lever action, up shifting and downshifting. As most riders that have been riding for a long time can attest that at certain speeds with the rpms just right, up shifting and down shifting without clutch lever action can be a real smooth process. There is that sweet spot where it always works, and is a smooth and gentle process. I am a slow and gentle rider (Well, most of the time. There are times when I get the fever and lose my mind for 10 minutes) The basic function of the rekluse clutch is fantastic. Coming to a stop, pulling the clutch lever in, doesn't exist anymore with the rekluse clutch. Starting out from a dead stop no longer requires clutch lever action. It's beautiful, just beautiful! Well worth the money.

Ok. So she put on about a 150 miles on this weekend. It is perfect for my wife. She loves being able to sit at a light and relax! Shocks and lift kit made a big difference. Able to back out the driveway with out scraping. It did make the ride a whole lot better. She says the steering is better for her to. I need to drop the stock bars down a little for her. How hard is that on a 2018? Also need to do something now with the front shocks.

Dale reference the front suspension, the easiest way to make a change is to change the weight of the front oil. Heavier oil will stiffen it up lighter oil will soften it up. Check what the stock weight then make a change. The stock weight on my "13" was FORK oil "E" which is 5 weight some say. I also have found places that say Type "E" is 10 weight. Anyway I switched to 20 weight and was very happy.

Great to hear she is enjoying the rear suspension upgrade!

Here is a Report LINK on Front Suspension testing that you may find useful.

Ok. So I went through the reports. What would you recommend. She does not need to push it too hard. More want comfort for her. I would say it will be rare for her to ride anyone else.

I would recommend at the least progressive springs and intimidator fork valves. Just give DK the info for riding style and weight and they will have it setup when you get it.

I've also been thinking of doing something suspension wise on my 2021 Tri-Glide. I looked at the Intimidator Fork Valves - but am at a loss as to exactly what they will do for me and if they are worth the cost.

Can you enlighten me on them?

    Thanks!

There are a few things that most folks (including myself) look for the front suspension to do.

-Keep the front tire on the ground, regardless of bumps. With the stock suspension, many times when bumps are encountered the rebound is not quick enough and the tire will be off the ground for for a fraction of a second. This does not sound like much, but that is what is happening when braking is not as good as it could be, and when there is a bit of a skittish feeling in the steering/handling...it is because the front tire is not staying well planted on the ground (compliant).

-Brake dive is Not a good thing. It upsets the geometry of the bike, if the front suspension is already mostly used up by brake dive, then you hit a bump, there is not enough travel left to comfortably absorb that bump.

-Comfortable absorption of the bumps. You don't want the irregularities, large or small, to pass on to the rider. Not only is it uncomfortable, it is fatiguing.

The oem front suspension does not do any of the above well.

The AK-20's do the best job, but they are very expensive, and, in my opinion, even though they are great, they would only be fully appreciated by a very aggressive rider that is really hitting the curve hard and wants the absolute best in handling and stability in those kind of riding situations.

The next best are the FST. They are much less expensive than the AK-20's, but very good, about 75% as good as the AK-20's for less that 50% of the cost. With supply chain issues they have been hit and miss on immediate availability.

I have run both of the above in my Trikes and been very happy with both.

We have also run the AK-20's in the DK 48 Sporty, and the FST's in several different baggers.

The next best are the springs (Progressive or RaceTech...the progressive are a bit plusher) paired with the Intiminator valves.

That is what I am currently running in my 2019 Tri Glide, and in my Sporty.

The Intiminators do a great job at reducing brake dive, they make the front suspension very compliant (keeps tire contact with the ground) and do a really good job at isolating the rider from the bumps.

Here is a video that shows what the Intiminators do and how they do it.

Feel free to call or email with any questions.

    Default DK Comfort Lift Kits

Yes I've been saving money to get a DK comfort kit with the lift kit and shocks - can't wait!

Purchased the wind deflector wings but did NOT do the tank lift. I must say the engine does run cooler and I do get a bit less helmet buffeting.

    Good stuff.
