Default Any FLHXXX Street Glide Riders Here?

I'm new here, and having a 2010 Street Glide trike delivered on Tuesday from my brother in Illinois.

I've never seen or ridden one of these (I'm buying it from my brother), and would really appreciate any information/comments/suggestions from those of you that own this model.

I'll be riding this trike both solo and with my wife, so I'd appreciate your comments on the seat, steering ease or difficulty, etc. My brother bought one with the electric reverse, and had a King tour pack put on.

If I had bought a trike myself, I probably would have gone with the Tri Glide, but I think that this Street Glide will work out, maybe with a few add-ons.

I had back surgery three years ago, and back support will be important. My right shoulder has had two rotator cuff surgeries, and I'm concerned about how much strength will be needed to steer in corners/curves.

I now ride on two wheels, but moving into the "golden years", with some physical limitations, is making me rethink the wisdom of continuing on my '98 Honda Magna bike at this point in my life. And so I"m looking forward to Tuesday when I can finally see her unloaded (the trike, not my wife) in the driveway.

I've read the 2010 Harley trike owners manual (about 228 pages, I think), and I can only  that all the electronic gizmos on the trike work as intended.

I guess I shouldn't be so concerned about these things, without even having seen the trike yet. I just thought if any of you own this model, I might learn from your experience.

Thanks, and have a very happy Easter!

TrikerKal, I didn't have the Street Glide. I had an Ultra conversion.

Does it have a radio, cruise control, CB, CD player, driving lights.

I sat in the garage for hours with my first Ultra trying to learn all the switches.

As far as driving goes, have you ever driven a 4 wheeler? It is as close to explaining how the steering will be. Remember, Push and Pull the handle bars using both arms. After a few hundred miles it all comes naturally.

Keep your feet on the pegs or floor boards at all times.

Some are overwhelmed at first but you will catch on very quickly.

    Good luck and be careful.

No, the trike I'm getting doesn't have the CB, extra front lighting, or cruise. I'm hoping that steering isn't too hard on my right shoulder, and I'll remember to keep my feet on the floor boards.

I've never ridden a 4-wheeler, so I guess trike riding is gonna be a brand new experience for me.

I only have to wait another day or so for it to arrive, and then I (like you) will probably spend a while in the garage trying to figure out what controls what.

    Thanks for the reply.

Welcome to the board Kal. I just got an 09 Tri-Glide from my wife who got a new '11 Tri-Glide. I also went trike for health reasons, open heart surgery. I'm 66, not getting any younger, and have been on 2 wheelers (mostly Harleys) for almost 50 years.

Remember that old car you had without power steering?? That is the best I can describe it. Leaning will do NOTHING. The drivers back rest is a requirement. If you have the Street Glide version, you will need a new seat too (I think) Also, you will need a passenger back rest for your wife. The Tri-Glide uses the Tour Pack as the passengers back rest. I've gone about 300 miles on the new scoot, getting used to it, just hard to break the habits of 50 years of 2 wheelers.

Enjoy it, it may not be as much fun as a 2 wheeler, but at least you will still have the wind in your hair, bugs in your teeth, and a lot less chance of falling over!

    Why 3 wheels?

I don't ride a Street Glide but I do ride a silver and white Lehman Jackal Suzuki C90 trike. I go to the Harley dealer from time to time and I get people who ask me how I like the Street Glide in comparison to the Tri-glide.

I'm serious. It happens. When I point to the Suzuki Boulevard emblem on the faux tank their expression cracks me up. :innocent:

If you get one, be careful. If you take it to a Suzuki dealer people may ask you how you like your Jackal.

Screwball, my brother had the King Tour Pack put on the trike I'm getting, so my wife should be set with the backrest.

As for the backrest for me, I wonder if getting another seat from the H-D dealer would be better than ordering a seat online. I've always had good rides with Mustang seats that I put on my bikes, and I don't know if they would be just as good as any other on the Street Glide.

And Yogisan, I bet your C90 Lehman conversion really looks great. About 11 years ago my brother had a Valkyrie converted with a Lehman kit, and that trike really flew down the road. The current H-D trikes' wheels look just like the ones on that Valkyrie trike.

Bdn56, I'm a recent (two year) import from Illinois, and back there they frowned on commuting down I-88 on 4-wheelers.

I have the 2010 Ultra Tri-Glide. As long as you have a seat with a slot in it, there are choices for rider backrests. I got the stock HD one that has tilt control and one button release for when I ride with the wife (she's my backrest then).
2 things to look out for. If reverse motor stops working or you just hear relay for it click, check breaker behind right side panel. It can sometimes trip only part-way letting just enough voltage across to click relay. also, if you are riding and hear Starter motor spin on it's own (without engaging), the ignition switches are crap. Mine has been replaced twice in 17,000 miles. Dealer mechanic told me it is a sealed switch made in Mexico and that H-D has been replacing lot's of them.
Oh, yeah, and welcome from Long Island, TrikerKal. You will enjoy the trike.

I had the stock seat on my Dyna for only a short time, then got a sundowner for two up riding and a mustang wide vintage solo for just me. after I got the trike, the stock seat didnt last very long either, we were both very happy with the sundowner so that is what we now have on the trike. very satisfied with it too. I dont have a back rest for me as of yet but I may be looking for one by the time we get to North Carolina.

The Street Glide was delivered today, and I just couldn't wait...so I took it for a spin around the neighborhood.

For those of you that advised riding the trike around in a parking lot for the first few miles, I now know what you meant.

Today, I discovered the joy of centrifugal force while cornering...I forgot that there's no lean-angle involved in trike riding, and it took me a while to realize that the trike wasn't going to tip while taking corners.

Well, anyway, it kind of got my heart pumping a little faster for a few seconds, so I guess I got my cardio workout in:wtg:.

I've got to get the paperwork taken care of tomorrow to apply for plates and title, then I'll ride over to the Harley shop to pick up a few things for the trike. I'm sure I'll be a "pro" at this trike-riding thing by the end of the 40 mile round trip:Biker:.

Yeah, if you do a little body lean in the opposite direction of the centrifugal force, it gets more comfortable. May the force be with you! :giggle:

I've put about 100 miles on my trike since Tuesday, and I'm finally losing my "death-grip" on the handlebars. Last Wednesday, when I rode over some country roads to the Harley shop, there were some really strong winds whipping up. The storms to our north...the ones that did so much damage and tragic loss of life in central Alabama, also gave me a lesson on just how stable the suspension of my trike is.

I think I'm gonna like riding the Street Glide, and I can't wait to get some lowers on her (the trike, not my wife). I wonder who makes lowers that would work on the Street Glide to reduce the up-drafts from under the fairing?

Well, anyway, both my wife and I are finally riding together now, and considering her own health problems of the past 7 months, that's a true blessing.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Harley makes color matching lowers for your trike. you will also need to get an engine guard and a steering stabilizer bracket.

My wife has a FLHXXX she bought in mid August 2009. She loves it and currently has 16,500 miles on it. It's all touring miles because she doesn't ride it to work at all. I just do short test rides after I do the maintenance or mods and I gotta admit htat it's a fun ride but I'll hang onto my two wheels for a few more years. But I surely won't feel any shame stepping into the three wheel mode when I feel the need. It's still a bike to me and still fun.

I did ride an Ultra classic until yesturday. I traded for a Harley FLHXXX street trike and totally fell in love with it. It is a thrill to ride in heavy traffic and never have to worry about the bike falling over. Quite a lot for an old person.

Bikerbozo, thanks for the tip on the reverse motor relay!!! It saved me a trip to the shop! I jumped the motor and it ran and engaged just fine. The relay was tripped!~ Thanks so much. Saved me some bucks and time. Rather spend both on the road then the shop!!! Safe riding to all!!! Viper!

    Hello All
My 2011 FLHXXX was brought home last week. Still getting the hang of turning. The ride home from the dealer was done on a Sunday morning on local roads only. I suspect it will take some time to feel comfortable in the twisties. Thanks for all the great info on this forum!
