Default Whats the pefect comination you have found for reducing head buffeting

My Freewheeler beats me to the point exhaustion on at highway speeds. After 30 miles I'm ready to park it. My head feels like a bobble head kids toy. The trike is bone stock. On my Ultra Limited I could ride tank to tank all day without getting that feeling.

I'm trying to decide the best way to attack the problem. I'm trying to get a nice calm pocket of air. I don't want to eliminate the wind, I need some wind when the temps get hot just make the ride better like my ultra was.

Any combo I've forgot? I'd like to stay with a windshield and not go to the fairing but The cost between the two is close enough before paint If its that much better I'll need to consider it.

Memphis Shades batwing fairing. If your trike is black no paint needed.

What style helmet are you wearing?….I have 3 ….Half for only local rides… 3/4 with shield for rain and summer hi ways.. Full modular for winter riding… with the modular helmet there’s almost no wind buffering at any speed..

I've been using a 3/4 helmet. I tried a full face and it doesn't help.

This is my 3rd Freewheeler, I have used a tank lift, HD Freewheeler windshield and DK Customs defectors and have solved the air flow problem

    https://www.dkcustomproducts.com/coo...dk-cdw-trg.htm

I have ridden to Mn and back 3 times and had good riding with this combo

Yes, the Cooling Deflector Wings that you can see HERE.

Also a Tank Lift that you can see HERE.

Both of these will take air that normally goes over the top of the tank, hitting the rider in the chest, then traveling up and causing a bobble effect. Now that air is directed over the engine, helping cool it down and reducing buffeting.

Those two items, combined with a recurve windshield, will reduce/eliminate buffeting for most folks.

How tall one is, riding posture, helmet, and even handlebar/grip location will all have an effect on buffeting also.

Fork Fangs are very effective at reducing air hitting the rider also....the Big Problem with them is that they also reduce the air flowing over the air-cooled engine. Extensive testing shows that fork fangs increase engine and oil temperatures by 20-25 degrees. That is NOT a good thing with these trikes that already run too hot for their own good.

DK cooling deflectors, DK tank lift, and fairing with re-curve windshield. I get a little wind on my upper arms, but not on my chest or face at hiway speeds. 70 to 80 mph NO head bobble!!! The tank lift and cooling deflectors put the wind under the tank where it belongs to help cool the motor and out of your face. Your in Independence, I'm out by the airport. Take a ride and see my setup. I also have a tall Memphis Shades windshield you can try. johnmfry@frontiernet.net Contact me there. I tried to PM you but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do it.

I have tried all of the items listed in this thread and the only thing that made a significant difference was the JES fangs.

Testing with my powervision tells me they cost 10 to 15 degrees in higher engine temperature which I am not thrilled about but I tolerate because without the fangs the bike is un rideable at highway speeds.

I also wear a full face helmet 90% of the time and a 3/4 the rest of the time.

I had a Freedom Shield re-curve on my Road Glide it made a world of difference. I tested a Harley shield before I bought one from John. It did not stop the buffeting with the Freedom Shield re-curve and it was just over my head. I highly recommend the Freedom Shield re-curve.

I don't have a powervision so I am not sure how many degrees the JES fangs cost me. I do have the DK Customs tank lift and cooling wings as well as Love Jugs. When I traded my 2015 for my 2020 I did try it for a couple of days without the fangs, then back on they went.

Definitely the JES fork fangs, best $175 I’ve ever spent. Tried taller HD windshield = $400 down the drain, half helmet= dumb looking and useless, Amazon clip on wind deflector = another wast. Check my post under hobbieman10.

I have a triglide, not a freewheeeler. I have a flat top windshield, fork fangs, & baker built windblockers. My improvement from adding the wind blockers was as noticable as the fork fangs. They are pricey, but effective.

Bruce, 13” windshield? Is that a typo?
