Terrible gas mileage

This past weekend we rode to Lawton Ok. Well we put around 1200 miles on the bike. During this time frame I was noticing that I was getting really shitty gas mileage. Hell I was lucky to get 130 miles on a full tank of gas. Now this is a Newer Trike. It only has approx. 3000 miles on the odometer. I checked tire pressure 36 and 26 appropriately. Not too much wind. So I am really curious as to what this could be. I also understand heavier bike and more of a wind (for lack of better words) catcher, and all. But this mileage really is poor.

That's is lousy MPG's......I with my 2019 Tri. Will do at least 180/190 miles before the reserve light gos on..Are you sure you are filling the tank to the top?...Sometimes you'll think its full 'But it will still take another gallon+...

Absolutely, while coming home from a weekend ride I had to get on the interstate for a short time. The right lane was full of semi's so I rolled it up to 80 MPH for about a mile to get around and I swear I could see the gas gage drop lol.

I see from your profile that you have a 2022.

The previous posts are all good things to look at. Even being in Texas, where you are probably running 80-85 mph, you should be getting 29-31 mpg. At those speeds you should be able to get 150-170 miles out of a full tank before your low fuel light comes on.

The one thing that might be going on, is that running at those speeds, in the heat in that area, the engine is probably getting warmer than HD wants it to. When it does get hot the ECM will pull timing, which reduces power.

This usually results in having to twist the throttle more to maintain speed, and then the MPG go into the toilet.

Worst mileage I ever got on my 17 TG was when I was running westbound 70-75 on I40 between Oklahoma City and Amarillo with a 20-25 MPH headwind.

Here in Indiana on the Interstate running 70 I usually can get 33

Riding local 55-60 I average 37-38 and it isn't unusual to hit 40.

Your mileage does not seem real unusual. Above 70 it suxs some gas.

On my way to and from the Black Hills & Wyoming I got the following mileage:

25-26 mpg when riding 80-85mph

32 -34mpg when riding 65-75mph

37 -39 mpg when riding around the Black Hills, Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Hiway

It was hot this year so that didn't help

3149 miles in 7 days and 101.74 gallons of gas used.

30.95 mpg average - $4.64 per gallon average.

I second this observation… With a Harley Screamin’ Eagle tuned Stage 2 I’m getting like 35 (into the wind) to 38 mpg (with the wind) keeping it around 60mph or less.

Once I’m at 70 (3k or higher rpm), average drops to around 32-33 mpg, which would come down to 160-180 miles till the light comes on. Headwind/tailwind makes a big difference, even when minimal. Tri-Glides are heavy and not the most streamlined vehicle on the road, as we know.

I’ve been keeping a fairly detailed log to track my mileage.

I usually like to stretch after a couple of hours anyway, so I stop anyway around 130-150 miles. But that said, I’m never near empty at that point.

My mileage sux on the interstate 27-29 pulling a trailer. Without the trailer I get 30-32 I am running a rich tune on the bike to get more power . I could have it dynoed to get better mileage at higher throttle I guess. When it’s low on gas I just add some more.

There are a lotta variables in play when talking about mileage. The biggest of which is of course which engine and mods to it/ model year/2 up or single rider/and of course terrain. I think it's important to mention that when we're matching mileage. A 103 is a far cry from a 114. I'm getting much better mileage on my 2020 trike 114 with just a stage one then I did on my '05 Ultra 88 with a stage 3.

Lets try to at least mention what your combo is.
