Recently I purchased a 12 inch bench top engine lathe for home use. This lathe was sold under the Craftsman name from the 30's until the 70's. it was built by the Atlas press company and for being small a very versatile machine. So I join a facebook group that supports these machines and asked a question about the spindle thread that the chuck mounts to asking if it was a 1-8 thread or a 1 1/2-8 thread. Got several good replies the HE popped in stating..... First it is a 1.500- 8 not a 1 1/2-8. Then went on with all his technical jargon which being a toolmaker for more than 40 years I fully under stood what he was saying. But those of us who have practical machining experience do not talk about threads and machining like this. I know, I know its facebook but good grief it just gets tiring.

When people start getting too technical with a answer I go Full Seinfeld and just repeat to myself yada yada yada..😉..

I really wanted to ask him if he was trying to impress me or himself, but why bother. So my first thought was, so this guy goes into a hardware store needing a 3/8-16 bolt so he proudly tells the kid working there. I need a .375-18 TPI bolt, I can just imagine the look he would get, so I did the next best thing. I just blocked him.

Most self proclaimed experts are like that a lot of them have engineering degrees but as far as I’m concerned an Expert is somebody who became an expert because he made a lot of mistakes in his life….😁..

Being a 30 year industrial maintenance technician, I have seen this plenty over the years. I usually just give them a blank stare and then fix what they mess up. Lol.

Yeah I have had similar things happen to me where I blocked a person on the internet.

But now I dont block them because usually people like that will really screw up in the future and I dont want to miss an opportunity

to tell them what an idiot they really are
