Used to have a M4 issued, got a lot of training on it. Dept did that after 911. Since retirement, been thinking I might get another AR base ... for some reason Dept wanted me to turn that issue one in back in 2010, soon 13 years ago.

Was at the inlaw's, and POTUS was talking on the boob tube about banning automatic weapons before saying any ARs. All I said was "He has no clue". A comment was suddenly loudly made along the lines of "L** (my name) .... I'm sorry but no one needs an AR". I do love my inlaws. I said nothing more, but suddenly I felt a need to "scratch an itch".

Enter Palmetto State Arms and 24 hours later, just after we got home and unloaded, my order was in.

It arrived a few days ago, I paid a FFL a $10 transfer fee, bought some sights, extra mag, then was looking again on the PSA websight. Saw a .22 LR drop in conversion bolt with 3 mags. CMMG "Bravo" .22 lr conversion. Gave it some thought, read reviews, and .... well, it arrived yesterday. It is all stainless steel and what it does is drop in in place of the 5.56 / .223 bolt and so easy, it is a blow back action that has it's own recoil spring, firing pin, machined stainless chamber reducer, ejector too. It doesn't rely on gas operation at all.

Reading reviews, seems these mags that are able to pack 25 rounds work best with just 22 or 23 rounds, so I'll treat them as 20 round mags. I know that after a session, I'l need to run a few center fires through to clean rifling and the gas tube, but the bolt swap back is like a 15 second operation.

Now, to accessorize it properly. I am even considering one (AR) in 9mm or .357 now. I see that some people even custom paint thier ARs. I had a Romeo1 red dot I considered putting on it, but it went on a Sig pistol. Retired local game warden buddy has 5 or 6 different ones, so the bar is there.

Looking forwards to some range time now, and from videos, the .22 is pretty quiet too, quieter than a 9mm or other pistol I will at times shoot out back. I have a dedicated Marlin .22 989 M2 but getting the conversion for the AR is akin to buying a second .22 rifle, but uses all same facets of an AR.

In Nam, Some of the early M16 20 Round Mags.; If you put more than 18 in they had a tendency to jam after the first round fired....Had that happen to me once....And an old crusty sergeant said only put 18 in....Never jammed again..

I have built several AR's over the last few years, other than my Timney drop in trigger and the lowers everything comes from Palmetto State Armory. My last one has a stainless barrel chambered in 223 Wylde.

Mine are from PSA and 223 Wylde as well. Mine has an 18" stainless fluted heavy barrel with quad rail. My wife's is a standard 16" with a light weight rail. Hers was built with weight reduction in mind. Lol.

Well, I have added a carry handle rear sight, also ordered a premium reliabilty kit from BoreBuddy to work the 22LR insert smoother, I'll even shoot that comfortably outside here at the house. The FFL guy has invited me to come often to his range on his farm where he shoots, better place for 5.56 or .223 stuff, it's just so cold now. Two close neighbors have nice range set ups too, but will need to catch them at play. I hate to shoot at another's range when they aren't there, though they've offered. I even got a nice 35" long soft carry bag for it.

Looking at options for the front, something grippier than holes in an alloy M-lock cover. I do have a Harris Bi-Pod I've had since the '80s, just needs a lug but I think will have one here soon. Ordered a sling kit, has a lug.

I can see how folks get to liking these ARs, personalizing them like. Like Hot Rodders and cars or bikes even.
