Hello,
I am narrowing a GM 8.5” 10 bolt for a SBC T350 trike build. I am building this one as narrow and short as I can. Is there a rear axle width that would be too short, or unsafe?

I would look at boss hoss or v8 trikes, measure their stuff. I left mine wide.
Left the 2;73 gears in it.
I was thinking of doing 3 to5 shorter
Post a sketch or pics when you get time
imo i would not narrow it at all... i have built several trike all with car rears always irs for a better ride and will take more g force before lifting a wheel.
i always end up pretty close to stock width. i was horsing around and did get one on 2 wheels scary again my opinion but the wider the better
The short answer is "yes", but specifying that width gets complicated because of all the variables like center of gravity, tire width, rim width and offset. I just built a chain drive differential/rear axle for a Sportster conversion and made it 38" wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. I certainly wouldn't go any narrower on a trike with a V8 powertrain. Probably would go wider.
