I just picked up a 1994 honda gl1500 trike, it has a motor trike conversion. There are several issues I am trying to fix, but it has a box with wires going into it on top of the front brake reservoir, it has three switches on it and I cannot find it in the manual. This was a Aspencade SE, but still unable to find what it does. I just bought this bike to get it fixed up, I ride a gl1800 with a Motor Trike. Thanks for any info

Congrats on your purchase. How about posting a picture of what you are referring to. This way, my bet is we can help a bout more.

I had a 1500 with a MotorTrike conversion - my bet is this is an aftermarket switch for lights or something like that.

I am having trouble posting a picture. I will try again.

It will not let me post a picture. I more than likely do not know how. I was trying to copy and paste

I am also having to run some choke on, this trike has sit up for a while. I am going to get some seafoam and berrymans b12 tomorrow to see if I can help that. May drain the gas and put non ethanol in it. It is a 1994 with 56000 miles on it.

I think I finally got it

Litle difficult to see - but, as Trike Lady said, this is a switch box for extra lighting. On my Wing, I used that to add rear lights, front lights, etc. This way, I could turn them off and on as needed.

Just follow the lines down and see if they are connected to anything.

If not, you can remove it - however, you may want to keep it on and connect some lights, etc.

If the bike has been sitting for some time, draining the gas and refilling might be a good idea. Also, the seaform, as suggested works well.

Thanks everyone, this trike may have been setting more that 12 years. It is running, the reverse worked but now having trouble getting it in reverse. The neutral light stays on all the time, starts with just clutch disengaged, the turn signals do not work and the emergency flashers will not work. Radio, cb and lights. Dash lights work, the air pump works but the air bags don't seem to raise the back. Needs tires. I got it quite reasonable so I have room to wiggle. I just kinda like working on them. I just put the larger air bags on my gl1800 so I have a good set of bags that I think will fit. Only had it for two days, so just getting started. I will continue to seek help here.

If it sat for 12 years with gas in tank, there will also have been gas in the carbs. Hopefully you won't need to get carbs cleaned and rebuilt. It will probably need you to run through several tanks full with heavy doses of seafoam before you will know about the carbs.

As far as the 3 switches, like several have commented, they are aftermarket but could be connected to just about anything. Could be extra lighting but could be other accessories as well. You will need to trace the wiring and see what's connected.

Reverse problem could be just the switch but you will need to remove the reverse lever and the left side of the shelter to get to it. Not too hard. It has a rubber sleeve over the lever that slides off and then IIRC, a T-50 torx bit to remove the lever. Pay attention when reinstalling as at the base is a little metal rod that needs to go back into a hole on the rotating plate and is easy to forget.

As far as electrical, obviously make sure to check fuses but could be wiring issues as well and can take a while troubleshooting that. There are up to 2 fuses that will be inside the relay box. I could never figure out why Honda did that but they are there. There are also some grounds that are pretty well hidden but should be checked as well. Some info on where to find it is in this thread

Also, a very common problem is the #3 relay that is easy to overload with added accessories and goes bad. The circuit that this controls is almost maxed out with just the stock electrical items. If tail lights, gas gauge, temp gauge, (possibly the turn signals too but I can't recall) and a few other items aren't working, try testing and replacing the #3 relay.

OK I am working on the air bags and shocks on this 1994 gl1500. The air bags do not have a air line going to them and completely collapsed. There is a air shock where my regular shocks are on my gl1800. The air lines are small which is not a problem but why does the air bags not have air lines. The hole is open with nothing in it. I am going to try to attach pictures. This is my third trike and all have been Motor Trike. IMG_0159.jpgIMG_0160.jpgIMG_0162.jpg

Best guess is someone decided it was easier/better to put air shocks on instead of messing with the bags. The question at this point is are they actually shocks or air cylinders
