Odd occurrence today

Went for a ride on the 2008 CSC today. I used the cruise control for about 80 miles before turning it off because of traffic. Later turned it back on but it wouldn’t set. Pushed the button over and over, turned it off and on a few times, still would not engage. Stopped for gas and later when I pulled onto the highway it came on and worked all the way home. Any thoughts? Do I need to squirt some kind of cleaner into it?

Just a shot in the dark here make sure the brake switch isn’t hanging up if the brake light goes on it automatically disconnects the cruise control..

There were a couple people I used to ride with that would unknowingly rest their foot on the brake pedal from time to time. If you do spray the contacts and switches, use a good contact cleaner. Silicone will do in a pinch. Don't use WD40 as it will attract dust and dirt and make matters worse. Good luck..... Jim

There are actually 4 different cruise control cancel switches and any of them could cause the cruise to not engage.

Clutch handle is one. Try pushing out on clutch handle and see if that helps. To also do a quick check, pull clutch handle in slowly and you should hear 2 distinct clicks.

On handbrake like was mentioned, you can also try pushing that out to see if cruise starts to work. I know in mine, when I pull handbrake lever, I only hear 1 click but hear 2 when letting handbrake out and my cruise works fine.

Another mentioned item is foot brake. If you slowly push that down, you should also hear 2 very faint clicks.

The final cruise cancel switch is linked to the throttle. I only tried this cancel once but because I found it too awkward, I never use it. If while cruise is engaged, twist the throttle forward all the way so engine speed decreased, cruise will also shut off. This switch is somehow tied into the throttle cables and sits somewhere under the air box. I haven't really seen any problems with this one preventing cruise from engaging but just wanted to mention it.

If it turns out to be something like the clutch switch, you can easily remove it and use something like an electronic cleaner. It can also be replaced and I don't think they are very expensive. Hopefully one of these will help solve your problem...
