for the hard of hearing

getting to be that time for me to get a hearing aid. wondering what folks are having good luck with.

went to a specialist what they suggested seemed to work well but was around $4k 30 day return

tried audious only $177 but didnt like them at all

I’m maybe thinking about a hearing aid but for $4000. There’s isn’t anything important enough for me to listen to….

My hearing aids are made by Phonak.

I got them through my insurance and my portion was about $1000.

With out ins. they would have been around $4000

They connect to my phone where I can control the settings. Not only volume.

I can set them for different atmospheres. I can set then to tone down back ground noise or to focus just on the voice in front me. I can all so listen to music or phone call through them.

I started with a pair from Sams club. They were around $2000 and drove me crazy. (short drive, I know)

Don't bother with the cheaper brands. There not much more then amplifiers. You will be able to hear everything

but still wont be able to understand the person in front of you because of the other noises. VERY irritating

My sister in law has a different brand that has the same features as mine. I think she paid around $5000.

Don't skimp and try to save money on cheap brands, It will cost you more in the end.

thanks i thought probably that would be the case,,, phone adjustable seems real too...good to have a brand name to start... did you go to a specialist or online?

I just ask them to speak a little louder. If it's important they will and if they don't then I guess

it's not and I am not missing anything. A lot cheaper.

I saw an audiologist.

They also take care of any maintenance/warenty issues.

I have the Phonak P70R

​If you are a veteran, don't hesitate to go to the VA. They'll give you Phonak aids that are the best I've ever had. Also, the VA has a device that plugs into your TV that will play directly thru your aids which is much better in my case. This device is free from the VA.

​Oh yeah, one more thing. When you take a hearing test given by an audiologist you should be placed in a sound proof booth and given a legit hearing test. The tests given online do nothing to quell background noise that can mask the sound you're supposed to hear and are only as dependable as the speakers you have that were probably not intended for hearing tests. Do the online test people give you a copy of your hearing test? My audiologist does. IMO, online tests are designed only to confirm you need to by their hearing aids. Not worth the time it takes to sit in front of your computer, I don't think.
