    Default Old oil

Hi Guys, Sorry I've been away for a couple years recuperating from having a brain tumor removed. Sold my 2019 Tri after the brain operation and I'm doing better now and found me a trike that I pick up tomorrow. It's a 2019 bought new and the owner got sick and passed away. I am buying it from his wife but it only has 240 miles on it.

If he bought it new that oil should be changed before I try to drive it home right? It's about a 300 mile trip. Maybe I should just trailer it. What do you pros out there think? Also I always used all Redline on my others but is it too soon to go full synthetic Redline? Can't wait to get back on the road. I'll post pics when I get it. Thanks.

You haven’t ridden in a couple of years, it’s cold, and it needs fluids. I would trailer it. Glad you’re doing well and welcome back. Best of luck and congrats on your new ride!

Welcome back Jerry…. Trailer it home, you don’t want to find a problem on a 3 hundred mile trip ’ You haven’t ridden a trike in quite a few years.. and as far as synthetic oil you can use it anytime…

Welcome back, I do not like surprises so I would say trailer it home and give it a good inspection

Change all of the fluids including brake and clutch fluids, this way you can start your own maintainance records

    Best of luck to you

Make sure all fluid levels are good, tire pressure ok, then- ride that suckaa! Youll be back in the groove within 5 miles. Download the safety data sheet for the oil(s) your intrested in and compare the magical ingredients (none).

    Jerry,

i’m in the camp to not ride it home as is. Have you considered having a dealer nearby check it out and change the fluids. Most are not busy so you might find one willing to pick it up at no charge.

    Congrats on your new ride!

    Trailering isn't a bad idea.

You may want to check your VIN for this important recall, get it done pronto if it has not been done, also another good reason to trailer it to your local HD shop to have rcalls done

Plus 2 on the recalls.. Also tires need to be checked for cracking. 4 yr old tires sitting all this time. I would vote for trailering also Best of luck & welcome back.

Hi Jerry and welcome back. I am glad to hear the brain tumor thing worked out ok. Good decision on the trailer. You said that the trike was within 300 miles but you didn't say where. If 300 miles north that puts you into Utah or Salt Lake counties, very cold and snowy. South would be into Az. Cool but can be cold and rainy. So I concur with the trailer suggestion. Good luck on the new ride and the future health and many happy miles ahead for you.
    Happy TRAils/NSD
    Paul

Thanks Paul, I actually moved back home to Georgia after the tumor was removed to be close to family so it was actually in Florida. Sorry, I need to update my info.

Glad to hear you are doing good! Jack is spot on. It you didn't always do 100% of your own maintenance then it might be a good idea to drop it off at a dealer you can trust and have everything done. I suspect even that battery should be replaced unless someone has been charging and riding that bike once and awhile.

And while he has it at the dealer, he should have them do a DNA on the Vin number. It will tell everything that Harley dealer has done to the trike including recalls and updates. Also any accessories that a Harley dealer installed will be listed 👍.. I bought a 2019 triglide with Under two hundred miles on it and the first thing I did was to check DNA of the Vin. Very interesting aswhat they had listed in it..

Yeah, 300 away, too far for uber, close enough to trailer.

Im the oddball, id be driving it.

Since your trailering. How long has old fuel been in it?

Before you start up and suck more old fuel into it.

Drain, put new with approved fuel cleaner adative, then start?

My 2 cents of prevention, for you

You were right Jack, the recall has never been done. Any of them.

Trailer it to the nearest Harley dealership and have them go through it first before drive'n it home..........You don't want any Unpleasurable events happening while on the road home...

Nothing is more fun than sitting on the side of the road just waiting for that tow truck, to come bail you out, and adding that expense ($$$) bill to have it towed to a Harley dealership anyways....

Think smart! and then enjoy your new ride!!

    Ronnie
