Default Cargo Tray for CSC trailer hitch

I have searched the internet without success in hopes of finding a tray style trailer hitch cargo carrier to attach to the hitch on my Gl 1800 tour DCT with Encore CSC kit. I called CSC and they only offer the receiver hardware and chrome ball for traditional towing.

I would prefer not to have to pull a wheeled trailer if I can avoid it.

    TIA for recommendations, etc.

    You could not find these....

Just to let you know I looked at these things right after we triked our bike. Everyone who knew more than me kept telling me that a trailer was the way to go with a trike. You know what? I think they were right. Other than slightly slower accel and lower gas mileage I don't even know it is back there....

Last year I purchased a Show Chrome Universal rack referenced in PFWizs' post. It's a good quality product.....well made. I mounted it to use on a tour last August but all my stuff fit in the trike so I took it off and didn't use it. When doing my research, that rack seemed to be the best bang for the buck. Good luck..... Jim

Believe me, I searched for several hours using different search terms and the closest thing I could find was for Harley Davidson bikes. Thanks for the links, I will get beck to doing my research.

I considered a pull behind trailer but was leaning away from one for a few reasons. First, they seem very expensive for what you get, second, it is another trailer to be registered, tagged, maintained, stored and secured from theft. Our plans are to pull the trike in an enclosed trailer and visit the national parks throughout the country. Another trailer will not fit in the one used to haul the trike. I would have to connect it to the back of the trailer.

I am primarily looking for something to carry a cooler with drinks and a few snacks.

Here is the type of trike hauling trailer set up we had in mind.

Size: 72.8 KBIf cooler size is all your after I would think mounting one of the ones posted to the ball hitch adapter would be the best compromise.I wanted a touch bigger and while it worked it still needs some tweeking. It scrubbed going in/out of some parking lots but otherwise was ok.I built an hitch to let me use a carrier for a 2in receiver and bought the 300 lb model from Harbor freight.

Look for an ATV hitch carrier similar to the above and it should match your receiver size. They generally have the 1.5" square receiver instead of 2". Not sure what your current size is but wouldn't expect it to be a 2". I have not seen anything that will mount to the ball, just what mounts in the receiver.

CSC doesn't use a square receiver or receiver hitch.

It is rectangle flat iron with bends to fit the mount under the trike and then bends to come out the back of the trike.

Also the exhaust could become a problem with what you are carrying on the rack.

Here is another from Rivco. It is all aluminum. I purchased and mounted this on my 2021 Goldwing with CSC kit late last season but have not had a chance to use it on a trip.

The CSC hitch is actually quite strong stainless steel. The exhaust does not present any problem. The exhausts are 24 inches apart and directed downward. The rack is about 16 inches wide and centered between and above the exhaust ports. Both the Rivco and Universal racks are about the same size. I have a cooler in addition to a rigid carrying bag that fit it perfectly.

Which of your two racks do you like better?

Do you have to purchase anything other than the racks in order for the rack to mount to the hitch?

See my post #3. There is nothing needed to mount the rack on the hitch other than a trailer ball. Both racks mount the same using the ball bolt as the attachment device. I think both products are good. I went for the Universal due to price. Didn't need to spend a lot for something that will be used (or not) often.

If you use that rack, be sure your exhaust does not burn what your carrying back there............ I had to install turndown tips on my exhaust, the heat burnt 2 holes through my cooler's bottom..........

    {just a heads up suggestion here}

You must have different exhaust than we had on our 2010 Goldwing Cobra XL trike and our 2018 Goldwing Encore Trike. Both of those exhausts came straight back.

Glad yours worked out for you.

    Default Hitch Rack

I have an older Kuryakyn (I think) rack that I modified to hold the Kuryakyn bag I bought a while back. I added taller sides to the rack and modified the mounting bracket some to accommodate the CSC hitch bar. I haven't mounted it on the bike yet but I'm guessing it will be out of the way of the straight exhausts that I have on my Cobra XL conversion. Here's a few pics with and without fain cover. I mostly tow my bike to destination these days (77 yrs) but did want the extra capacity for those 1 or 2 days trips. I'm hoping this will work out. Will test mount it to the bike soon...

PS sorry for the double pics. Couldn't figure out how to remove the dupes. The 4 last ones are correct.

    Les

Default Here is what I went with

2009 Bushtec in very good condition and new tires with 5000 miles per the seller.

Still working on getting the wiring connection right. Trailer has a 6 pin flat and the trike has a 6 pin rectangular cube. I'll figure it out in time.Name: Bushtec1.jpg

Mine did not have a receiver until I built one, then I built a carrier that I could stand on, included running and brake lights too ... for those times I left the trailer home. I built the receiver to replace a stock springy flat bar, and added a long lever type piece that attached to where once was a center stand.
