    Default Stock 114ci to 130ci

I had a couple riding buddies redo their 107ci Trikes in the last year. They went with T-Man kits to get to 128ci and came out really good on the dino numbers. Needless to say when we have ridden together their bikes were much faster than my stock 114.

Just got mine back and have the first 300 miles on it. Went with the 130 T-Man kit plus I had the bottom end done up at Darkhorse. It takes some getting used to when you really hammer it. It will pull the front wheel off the ground in first and second easily so there is a learning curve. Have V&H headers plus new Drag Spec slip-ons. Riding down here in my home state of FL and I have noticed right away is there is less heat from the motor, which is of course a huge plus.

I am thrilled with the new motor and personally believe it was worth every penny. For anyone thinking of having a similar modification done Paducah Harley Davidson is great.

I took my trike in for brake and clutch fluid flush. And the head tech was trying to talk me into a S&S 124 kit. I almost did it but when I read the info from S&S they recommended, that it not be installed in a trike because of the luging nature of the trike. So, I didn't do it, but I will be following to see how it works out.

Not sure why S&S would feel their kit wouldn't work on a Trike due to a "luging" nature? I shift and run the rpms on my trike exactly as I have on all my previous Harleys. I certainly have never been gentle with it. As far as I can tell it is geared the same as the last Ultra Classic I owned.

I do know the Trike's transmissions can't handle power shifting and if you continue to do it without the clutch you will be replacing the tranny rather quickly after having a big HP kit installed.

I didn't do mine so I could race it anyway. I wanted to accomplish a couple things. If I was running 65 or 70 and needed to quickly pass I wanted the HP and torque to do it, plus I wanted a cooler overall better performing motor.

I went back to a metric bike years ago. Purchased a Yamaha Raider 113ci. It was a pretty strong running cruiser. I can still recall the day I traded it in on a new Harley Ultra. Riding the Ultra home it felt like it had about half the HP and torque as the Yamaha. Now I am back on a motorcycle that provides the power and acceleration all bikes should have.

    Default Lugging issue

Keep the rpm’s 2k plus , avoids any lugging issue.

I just got 650+ miles on the new motor today and changed the oil. All these miles so far I have varied my rpms constantly and kept them relatively higher than I normally would. So to answer your question I'm not sure. I'm heading to Key West Sunday 2-up and loaded so I will keep track of mpg.

Before doing the T-Man 130 kit I had V&H headers, different slip-ons, big breather, and a tune. I would average between 30 and 31mpg. If this new motor got 28 to 29 on this trip I would be thrilled.

Damn it guys, this post is going to cost me. I contacted the engine builder at the local HD shop I go to and asked him to put together a price for the S&S 124 kit. Asked him to check into the current cam I have in the trike which is a S&S 465 to see if it would work with this kit.

I hear ya. Our last run down there was about 5 years ago. This time there were three of us. Sunday going down we stopped for lunch at Cafe 27 then got into almost an hour delay just as we got into the lower keys area later. Took over 9 hours from central FL to get down there! Coming back yesterday not nearly as much traffic. I thought the keys and Key West had gotten crowded 5 years ago.....we experienced a ton more folks down there on this trip though and only one cruise ship was in port.

Steve, I'm sure you will do your research on get estimates but let me throw in my .2 anyway. I considered one of the S&S kits but when I talked to Four Rivers Harley they gave me several reasons why they considered a T-Man kit superior. I can't tell you why because I'm not and never have been a wrench turner type guy but it made sense to me. Also, they are one of only a handful of dealerships that custom build bike engines for customers all over the country. They have two mechanics (Jesse and Clint) that are extremely good are building race motors for Harleys. I realize you are almost 400 miles from their shop. I am 900 miles from them but I wouldn't have used anyone else for my new motor. The main draw for me was of course I have two close friends who have trike motors that were rebuilt with the T-man kits at Paducah in the past 12-14 months. One of them is from Paducah and the other from Alabama.

Anyway, good luck with your decision and......you can't take that cash with ya!!!!

If you call Four Rivers ask for Andre. He is in charge of service.

Richard, I kept track of my mpg for the entire trip. We were loaded and riding 2-up, plus we were stuck in stop and go traffic for almost an hour on the way down.

The worse mpg I recorded was 32, the best was 38. Overall for the whole trip my average was 35mpg.

What the DW and I both noticed was that when we were stuck in stop and go traffic there was barely any heat coming off the motor. It was sunny and high 80's so it was an excellent test to see how much this new motor reduced the heat for rider/passenger.

    Thanks, good info.

35 to 38 is about what I get with my 117 cvo trike.

When I had my 117 stage 4 twin cam it was more like 32.

The shop I am using has the best engine builder /tuner in our area, and he uses lots of T-Man parts. He built my friend a twin cam 124 with T-Man cylinders and heads and it makes 150 hp at the rear wheel. So, you have to trust your engine builder which I do. He is putting together some numbers for me. I will keep you posted.

Sounds like you have a great place to have it done if you go that way.

One big plus for me was that I think I ended up with a more reliable engine that will last me as long as I have left to ride. Almost like getting a new bike for very little investment. Good luck and I'll be checking back.

One big plus for me was that I think I ended up with a more reliable engine that will last me as long as I have left to ride. Almost like getting a new bike for very little investment. Good luck and I'll be checking back.
