    Default Confused About Catalytic Converter Removal on 2015 HD Tri Glide

    I have a 2015 HD Tri Glide. I've been told that removing the catalytic converter would make it run cooler. I've viewed YouTube video on how to do this. Here's the confusing part. (keep in mind I'm not techy or a mechanic) I've been told that I will NOT have to have to do anything else to the trike such as doing something to the computer. Just remove it and drive. I've also been told that I would have to update the computer or "tune" it (I'm not sure what that means) or add a new breather and so.

    So... I am looking for someone that has removed their catalytic converter and would like to know if you have to do anything else to the trike. I would prefer the same model year but that is optional.

    The catalyst converter is downstream of the sensor’s so nothing else is affected… accept a little louder pipes, and a much cooler right ankle..

    You have a 15 model Twin Cam, they run too hot (lean) from the factory

    You would do your engine a huge favor by adding some type of tuner to add more fuel

    Removing the cat will reduce the felt heat, but the internal engine heat is the engine destroyer

    The first thing i did to my 15 tri was to remove the cat. I drilled it out with a 1 inch x 16 inch paddle bit. Did the sme thing to my 12 streetglide.

    No problems what so ever and a lot cooler running.

    removed on 3 diff bikes. current is a 20. no tuner on this one or the 16. Maybe on the 15 you will need to do per Jack's post. He is very knowledgeable on HD.

    Removed the cat on my '14 Dyna. Still ran hot. Added an FP3, Jagg fan assisted oil cooler and love jugs. Now its tolerable. That twin cam just runs hot. The hottest HD motor Ive ever owned. If you gave me a twin cam Id sell it for pennies on the dollar. Hate them.The worst motor HD ever built.

    In my humble opinion, I think the consensus is take the converter out first..Then ride it around a while and see if you have to add something or take away something like they say in the circus (I posted this once before somewhere), That it’s best not to let the elephants out before you let the Dancers out…😁..

    I have removed the cat in every HD I have had that came with them and several for my friends. As long as you don't go to a high flow air cleaner everything will be fine. But as Jack said, if you can add a tuner it would be very beneficial to your motor.

    I have removed the cat on a 2014 Tri Glide, which is the same, mechanically, as your 2015 Tri Glide.

    As Jack mentioned, this will reduce the heat radiating from the exhaust, but it will not reduce any actual engine heat/heat radiating from the engine.

    It may be a tad bit louder...some of our ears can hear the small difference, others of us, not so much.

    Regarding a tune:

    If you still have the OEM tune, you are running too lean and that is not good for the engine. Whether you remove the cat or not, you should have a better than OEM tune on your Tri Glide to help it run better, stronger, cooler and longer.

    There are several tune options going from relatively inexpensive, as seen HERE, to more expensive, as seen HERE and HERE.

    If you already have a good tune, nothing needs to be changed in the tune to ride your Tri Glide with the cat removed.

    Here is a Written Report on why & how you can do reduce heat in the engine for a more comfortable ride and a stronger, longer lasting engine.

    Below is a video of some inexpensive things you can do to make your ride more comfortable.

    I did add the FL-VIED-10 to my bikes when i deleted the cat. Does shed some heat.

    Ok ,I'll put my two cents in . I have 2015 ,removed the cat, added a set of Reinhart 4 inch Mufflers and did a Air filter change to a K&N with and double open cover , The added the tuners from D&K https://www.dkcustomproducts.com/fl-...vied-10-nr.htm Added a Bit more fuel to the ratio. Now it pulls strong and runs so much cooler That you don't even notice the heat anymore ! I'm a happy camper not melting my right shoe any longer ! A lean running bike is just down right hot !

    That's my two cents worth , It all worked for me !
