    Default Chrome Starter Motor Cover

So I have had this Chrome Starter Motor Cover on my wish list for a while now. It's not an expensive piece but I have hesitated because the installation instructions say disconnect the battery, pull the main fuse, use a ball head hex wrench to install the bolts. The YouTube guy (from J&P) puts it on in 1 minute 43 seconds and never says a word about getting near wires (which is definitely not my thing) So today I actually saw this Chrome Cover on a FW and it looked great. It's a mighty dark area behind the engine where the starter sits. A perfect piece of chrome place. Any input is always greatly appreciated ... Thanks

Probably an over abundance of caution… but one slip and you wish you did disconnect the fuses…And that said there are many of times when I throw caution to the wind and got away with it then is the rare time I get burnt depends on how steady a your hands are and you know you’re not gonna hit any wires?… To Paraphrase “Dirty Harry do you feel confident?

Any time you are working on anything electrical it is prudent to take power out of the picture

Everything above. My $0.02, just pull the main fuse will cut all the power.

    Jeff, follow this,

Turn the ignition to the run position but do not start the bike. Pull the main fuse. Return ignition to the off position and insert the main fuse after repairs

I like Parts Giant too ... I also got my bumper from them and they seem to have their system nicely under control. Always find the best prices with them and so far great comms and fast shipping. Props to Southport for the original PG lead. I think we all bought our bumpers there. Successful (hopefully) install pics to follow with the Starter cover project

Parts Giant carries SBS brake pads for Harley Freewheelers

These are very good brakes, low dust, they work as good as EBC, maybe a bit better IMO

    Default Kuryakyn Chrome Cover

Jeff...from the video, at least to my eyes, granted that they like the rest of myself are 72 years old, the Kuryakyn Chrome Cover is just that..a Cover. It appears to fit over the existing starter not replace the original assembled cover. Therefore no worries about electrical contacts, fuses, etc. Again, merely my observation and indeed will be an easy and positive appearance upgrade. Keep us informed.

The "little piece here" method is my fave way to customize my ride. To the untrained eye walk around, I do enjoy pointing out so many tasty accessories that look like they were always on the Trike. I'm hoping this new chrome cover will also look like it was always there. I do keep a running list of everything added, starting in the very front of the Trike and ending with the rear bumper. 40 very classy (imho) additions so far and the "outside" is just about finished. Buying a Harley is like buying a Christmas tree....gotta add the decorations. Or..buying a Harley is merely a down payment towards the accessories. Ahhh..the things we do that add to our enjoyment. Then again, in Mechanisburg OH...a gentleman was buried astride his Harley. His sons fulfilled his wish. A plexiglass coffin no less so the townspeople would be able to see his last ride.

Went ahead and ordered the chrome starter motor cover from Parts Giant. (I swear this forum is going to bankrupt me.) I figured if I had to pull the main fuse to replace my spark plugs anyway why not add a shinny thing and save the effort of pulling the fuse again later? See? It makes perfect sense to order it now.

I like helping you spend money

Take a look @ the SBS brake pads while you are in there, you probably remember them from the Troublehead you had

Should arrive 2morrow ... has been touring the country for the past couple of days but I think 2morrow looks promising. What a really cool bit of shine to add to a very dark and plain looking section behind the engine. When I saw it in person it looked great. Ours will too
