Thread: The nomad

    Default The nomad

    The idea is to stick that dana behind my nomad and get back on the road.

    The basic design is - iam not shortening the dana (60"drum brake end to drum brake end) so that means I have to extend the swing arm 8" so that I can have the 60 % ratio.

    I like fat tires I am thinking 16"x10" and I like my cases

    I have to invent a slide up system in order to open them

    And the drive shaft has to be Incorporated into the reverse box so as to line up with the pinion.

    Any objections ?

    Any ideas ?

    Am I missing something ?

    Did I mention I never done this B4 ?

    Ok then ! off to rebuild the dana

    Axle washed , scrubbed , rust treated , sanded and painted , very pretty!

    Drums could not be restored ordered new replacements backing plates found decent used ones on eBay.

    New brake lines needed.

    Some driveline shops also will make you new brake lines. They will just need to know length. They may also be able to modify your Nomad shaft to work on your trike.

    You said something about a reverse box.I'm guessing your going that way instead of flipping the axle.

    Pagasus 1300 iam gonna flange my own, ,,the drive shaft will def need some mod as it will be integrated with the reverse

    New brakes and used backing plates are in off to recondition backing plates and assemble brakes and diff iam a little confused on which is left and which is right if I flip the axle does it still work the same? Hmmm!

    LH backing plate will have a hole on the front side lower area for a parking brake cable RS will be rs lower

    Yes link works for me also....looks like a bit of work but would do the job. Thinking there are other forward/reverse transmissions out there also. I had a 1953 Chriscraft boat that had a manual f/r box that used clutch plates and a planetary gear set, straight thru shafts. can't remember the name of the box? search old manual marine gear boxes, you might find something....Wondering if an electric motor/belt combo would make a reverse? good luck!
