Default Mounting License Plate

Can anyone suggest ideas on how they mounted their license plate as there is no mounting bracket included. Just got my 2008 Yellow Stallion last week and LOVE it so far. Drove it home 400 miles from NE to MN. Still waiting for my owners manual to figure a lot of stuff out (somehow the manual was missing when I took delivery). Also, any help people can provide in hooking up a battery tender/heated clothing adapter plug to the battery and running it up to the driver position would also be greatly appreciated as well as how to easily run an aux plug from the front of the radio (in the trunk) to the driver position for my iPod.

I am also interested in reading more from the person who is installing front speakers to the radio as I found the stereo unusable at highway speeds with the current setup.

    Thanks for any help provided.

We didn't want to drill holes in our Stallion
so I went to Wal-Mart and purchased some
wide pieces of heavy-duty adhesive velcro
in the sewing department.

I bought the chrome license frame and decorative
screws at the Harley dealer. I screwed the plate to
the frame and then had Wayne grind off the end of the
screws until they were flush with the plate. I positioned
the velcro so that it covered the screw ends so they did
not scratch the Stallion. The plate is attached very securely!
Thanks for the reply and info. I thought of both HD velcro and double faced tape but wondered what others were/are doing too.

Where in WI are you guys? I'm in the Twin Cities area. We should try getting together sometime...

    Thanks,

Used chrome lay down plate holder and attached with double sided 3M Trim tape, I check it often and it seems to hold very well. I don't know if the Missouri heat will soften the adhesive somewhat this summer.
JhChew Like your pin stripping. I will have thoses area's a little diffrent when I get the beast on the ground. The rest of the underlighting is suppose to be in today then I just need to wire the fuse block and power everything then get it to the detail shop for the acent of the body. then it will picture time for what is done . I may have to get the Fuze Block that was mentioned in another post, I like the ideal of being able to have keyed and hot links for the power which. The current fuse block is wired full hot.

Later again sharp..
Good work, looks clean...... But sooner or later you are going to have to ......DRILL BABY DRILL!!!
Once you start you are not going to be able to keep that drill away from that smooth soft fiberglass. Yes I love the smell of burning fiberglass and the lovely white powder that piles up under that smooth hole! It is addictive, don't fight it man, you will give in sooner or later if you start modifying your stallion.

Careful Mattel.... TMS might disown you!!! You are having way too much fun drilling their carefully laid fiberglass ! It looks like we may have to form a "Drilling Anonymous" support group! LOL.

I have no issue with drilling a hole to mount the license plate but that only solves part of the problem. What hardware is then used? You don't have access to the back side of the fiberglass so you can't just use a nut and bolt setup. You need to use some sort of anchor to affix the plate to once you've drilled the holes.

For those that HAVE drilled a hole or two, what was used to anchor the bolts?

There was no anchor on my just a corse thread bolt feed in to the fiberglass. I was real happy about that but it has been doing just fine.

    Why drill???? Wouldn't a 22, 45, or 9mm be quicker and cleaner?

Mine came with a plastic anchor like you use in concrete with a large screw. I used a nipple insulator for the bottom two holes to keep the plate from vibrating while I ride. I will try to get a picture up soon. The sad thing is I did not get to drill my plate, someone robbed me of that pleasure!!!!

I used a 1/4 X 20 X 5/8 long rubber compression fitting sold at Home Depo. You will need to drill a 1/2 hole and insert after drilling. Once the fitting starts to compress, it forms a leak proof seal in the hole.
