Yikes! I hate to hear about an incident like that! Such good news that they will be ok.
Just got an e-mail from the guy in Tampa, FL. that bought my '97 GL-1500 and trailer. He said that last month, he and his wife were going down I-75 and blew the rear tire on the bike. Demolished the bike and put he and his wife in ICU for 3 days. Said they're home now and healing up well. He didn't know if he ran over something or what, but he had just had new tires put on the week before. Really nice people, and I'm thankful they're ok now...

Boy that is something. I hope this does not keep them from enjoying the great sport of riding. Sound like they must of done somethings right to survive.
My first thought as I read the message was dry rot. Then you said they had new tires put on. Well my next thought goes to over inflated, then they really got hot on the I-75 and blow if it hit something from high pressure. The tire would not have any place to flex. They might want to have someone check the pressure in the tire that did not blow just to get an idea. Also even though they just purchased the tires they might want to check the build on date on the sidewall. At some places tires can sit for awhile. I've seen 5 year old tires sold for the first time.
I ope their recovery goes well. Ted
Oh man, glad to hear they'll both be OK. That's a scary reminder to all of us that even if you're doing everything right, problems can still come after you.
Probably a Chinese made valve stem..some sold at Sears are having problems on the autos..
Trikerjim, I'd really be interested in more info on this. This is the first time I've heard of a rear tire failing on a trike and it interests me. I'd also like to hear how the trike acted after the failure, what your friend did to counter the problem and if he thinks his actions helped or hurt his situation.
I think info on the trike kit on his bike might help too. That is to say what type suspension.
Thanks
Send them my best.

Hey Buzzard, sorry if it wasn't clear the way I posted, it was a bike not trike he was riding. I sold it to him last year when we decided on a trike. He just got a new set of Dunlop E3s put on, but I run that interstate 4 nights a week and there is so much road construction you never know what might be lurking out there on the pavement. I check my truck tires everyday and find nails, screws, giant staples ect. in them.

Phew, does not make the out come any less tragic, but I'm glad to hear it was on 2 wheels. A whole different set of issues comes into play. I also have not heard of a trike rear tire failure. I hope your friends a speedy recovery. Ted
I have never heard of a rear tire failure on a trike either. Altho my friend had one rear tire get down to less than 5 # and it still road ok. I noticed it tipping toward the curb more than usual.
Great to see you back Buzzard. Where you been?

Hey Zook. Been keeping out of the line of fire. Also taking advantage of this great weather and staying on the road.
There is one other thing though. Between you and me, I was also getting just a little tired of Nana hittin' on me. It's pitiful when you're as good looking as me though. The Gals just can't help themselves. You know what I mean?
Now Nana, I'm just joking. Don't get your panties in a twist. I'd hate to have to report you the the "Administrator".
Seriously, I'll be lurking around. If anyone needs anything, just give me a call.
Buzzard
hmmmm..dont know about you two...

Mornin' Buzzard. Again you have me laughing! Thanks -- I needed that after the election results this morning! See, you and I SHOULD have run: BUZZARD FOR PRESIDENT! NANA FOR VP! Bet we could have put a dent in Obama's numbers; what do you think?
