TG Trunk lock

I don't remember which Harley forum I posted this in reguards to having to slam the door.
When I first got my TG I had to slam the door also and then I remembered back when I owned 2 '68 VW bugs and you had to slam the doors to close them because they were almost air tight or you had to leave the window open a crack. Then another VW owner told me to quickly close the door, but stop just short of closing and then just gently push the door the rest of the way - BINGO - worked like a charm. So I tried it with the trunk door and works perfectly just like the VW door. Now I don't have to slam the door anymore and possibly break anything.
I have a 2012 so I don't know if mine is also plastic or if H-D made a change on the 2012.

Same for me. After watching the dealer slam my trunk by pressing on the painted portion at the top when I took delivery (As I cringed, thinking he might scratch the paint), I started closing the trunk in a 2 step process:
Push on the chrome handle till it clicks, and then apply more pressure on the chrome handle, and it will click again, and hold well. Haven't had it open accidentally using this method... Have never lubed it...

Have not had a problem with my 2011. I close the door to just before it makes contact with the latch, then pull back about an inch and give it a good shove.

Bigbill, I have the same problem on my 2012. The service tech told me that it's almost a necessary evil that its like that. Guess I will just have to make sure I lock it before getting on the road.

I my 2010 tri glide I readjusted the two side latch pins and lubed the push button and works better than it did when I took it from the dealer. The door stopped opening on the rode once I lubed up the button.
I dont have to slam it shut anymore.
