    Default Oven Burner

I have the 2011 Tri Glide and I too have a major heating problem. I have been doing some research and there is a company called Fuel Moto that sells a complete kit for our trikes. The kit includes Jackpot 2/1/2 Header pipe, Jackpot Muffles, Dynojet Power Commander V (pre-programmed) and a Fuel Moto Stage 1 Air Cleaner. The cost is $1168 for the kit, but my concern is will this void my warranty? I can't even enjoy a nice long ride here in Texas, because of the heat outside and the oven I am sitting on. The guys at FM said that it wouldn't void it, but the guys at HD where mute on the subject and tried to sell me the Screaming Eagle turner they have (plus 2 hours labor). Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

planodad there is not an easy answer. It depends on the dealer. If they go by the book anything that were to happen to your engine it would not be covered, because you changed the engine. The rest should be. Most dealers would probably honor the warrantee, but you would not know for sure. The dealer is being mute because they can not come out and out right say that they would honor it. Techniquely any part that is modified becomes un covered, even if its a Screaming Eagle part. Most of them state for racing use only.

I feel your pain. I have the same trike in Louisiana. Today the heat index was 107F and the humidity was over 70% for most of the day. I pulled the lower fairings and it helped some. I have Rush mufflers(with O2 bungs), SE breather and a Power Commander V on order from the local HD shop. They will warranty it all in-house. They recommend pulling the PC V if I have to bring it to another HD shop. If I have to pull the header pipes and dump the cats further down the road, all this will work with Fuel Moto or Fullsac header pipes. We will see. Right now I just keep praying for Winter. LOL

anyone try the nighrider.com site?? Try the Xied that plugs into the O2 sensors. Is a cheap fix around the heat. seems to have helped on my bike until my warranty runs out then I will swap out pipes etc.

That is a good suggestion because they are easily removed which means the dealer wouldn't know they existed. The sad but hard truth is adding tuners such as the PCV, the TTS and even the SEPST along with other head pipes can cause warranty issues if your dealer wants to be difficult. Heck even if a dealer installs one of these tuning devices along with a different head pipe doesn't mean there couldn't be warranty issues 1,000 miles from home at a different dealer. I always shudder when someone has a dealer talk them into building a hopped up engine other than Stage 2 and tell the person it will be covered under warranty. What the dealer doesn't tell them is the installing dealer is the one who will cover it under warranty, not Harley Davidson.

I have the Fuelmoto headpipe. I've had my TG in for dealer service a couple times and they haven't a clue that I have that headpipe. The "warranty nazis" have told me though that my PC V and disconnecting the O2 sensors will void the warranty. Since that discussion, I just pull the PC V and reconnect the sensors if I take it in for service.

BTW, I had the dealer stage 1 download done just to keep them happy. So if I have to pull my PC V, it won't be running so severely lean.

Go with a tuner, pipes, and a K&N air cleaner for performance and to help cool your motor..If you are looking to keep the engine heat off your thighs get a crotch cooler they work very well and are very easy to install..

I had the same problem. We settled for the Kuryakyn Perfect Storm tune up kit. Our dealership installs Kuryakyn so the warrenty is not an issue. One all that EPA crap is removed the trike runs cool and has power.

My trike still hasn't arrived, but I asked the parts guys at the dealership, and they sell and install the Kuryakyn Perfect Storm kit - no warranty issues. They will bolt it up before I take delivery. I'll do that, but my wallet is already getting stretched.

If the bike is still an oven, we'll be talkin' some more......

That'll go a long way towards taking care of any problems you have. That kit will rid you of the cat and richen your AFR to help cool things down also, you should be quite happy with the results. Your going to still have some heat due to the trike having poorer air flow vs a 2 wheeler, it just won't be that searing heat that makes the right leg feel like your part of the BBQ dinner that night. When my 2010 Triglide was bone stock with the factory head pipe I actually measured 140 degrees on the inner part of my right leg with a IR temp gun on a 75 degree day.

Captain Itch....I want to order a crotch cooler, but my husband had a question. The shields that are on the TG now are heat deflectors that are supposed to disperse some of the heat across the engine. He is worried that the crotch coolers will hold more head on the heads. You can PM me if you want. I think the question makes sense to me.

I had sent you a PM...
Thank you for your email I hope that I can answer your question..The way that they are designed they have a bigger foot print so they work much better than your stock shields. They will not hold any additional heat and your fuel injected bikes have a limp mode that will shut down the rear cylinder till the bike cools as a safety measure..With the addition of our shield no one has ever reported this happening so it does not hold the heat to the point of doing any harm..But it will keep you more comfortable..If we can help you just holler..

I read either on this site or another trike site that these things are money pits.I'm beginning to believe it.Dumping $500 here and $500 there begins to get expensive quite fast.

I made other small changes to my 2011 tri glide. I replaced my stock head pipes with the Jackpot and added V&H Double slash round mufflers as well as a V&H Fuelpack. That alone took care of about 75% of the heat problem, but I went ever further. I wrapped the head pipe with titaninum exhaust wrap, that helped even more. Because the air gets pulled into the inner fender around the passengers right foot while moving I simply, and you may not want to do this, drilled 12 3/8" holes through the lower part of the fender just below the passengers footboard. These holes give the air that is trapped by the fender a way to get out. My wife said that she does not feel any heat on her foot anymore.

I bit the bullet, and dumped a couple grand into similar mods Fordman55 has on his 2011. I have a slightly different system, however. I ordered the Kuryakyn Perfect Storm system that has the true duals head pipes, new mufflers, better air cleaner, and the TT tune all included. I am praying it does to mine what Fordman's system does for him. The dealer is going to wrench them on before I take delivery later this week. It's supposed to hit 100 degrees here this weekend. Probably not an ideal time to do a break-in.

I will think twice, though, before opting to drill holes in the fender......
