Question Looking to find part numbers Brakes 2001 Suzuki Intruder VS 800 Intruder Lehman

    Hello everyone!!

I am having part issues with my trike. I am the 3rd owner of a 2001 Suzuki Intruder VS 800 Intruder Lehman, I believe it's a Hobo kit. Please check out my pic and if anyone can verify, or tell me how to id this kit, I would be appreciated

I am not real techy so please have patience with me, I am new at this. utergreet:

Back brakes, have none. My bike guy figures it is the brake cylinder, as it is leaking fluid right at the tire. Does anyone out here happen to know what the part number would be? I was told it was a Pinto axel, I asume Pinto brakes, but from my reading here, I think that I can assume nothing. I let my bike guy know that the axel may be from a Pinto, but his next question is "What year?"

I made the sugestion that if he looked on the part after removal, that a part id should be there and maybe we can track it that way. I got a "look"...think he is getting sick of me as I have had this trike in his shop more than I have had her on the road.

If anyone has a part listing or any assistance that they can share..it would be appreciated. I think I seen the number for the brake pads, but I think I need the brake cylinder also.

    :Bow Down:

It seems the schematics/part listings are a closely guarded secret, or my internet search skills are sadly lacking. Seems I can find parts listings for just about anything else.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

    Addendum:

The brake shoe numbers that I came up with on here from another post were for a '06 Lehman conversion, hoping that has not changed.....

    Raybestos 474RP or

    NAPA SS474

    Can anyone validate?

    Thanks

Thanks Gorilla. This seems like the best site I have seen so far to have all this colabrative knowledge. I am sure someone else has had this parts issue.

Whenever I'm in that situation I remove the "bad" part, take it down to the local auto parts store and have them take a look at it. Most of the time they can come up with the replacement part. You also might consider a rebuild kit for the cylinder. Cheaper than buying a whole unit. Unless the unit is physically damaged I suspect you may only be looking at replacing a worn gasket or seal to correct the problem.

Sorry that I don't know the part # you're looking for, but wanted to join this thread as we all seem to be trying to figure out what rear-ends our various trikes have.

Have read about Pinto, Mustang II and a friend of mine who built sand rails thought that my lady friend's 2002 VS800 Suzuki/Lehman rear-end was a Dana. Am still trying to find out just exactly what it is.

Seems like Lehman Trikes have used a wide variety of parts and I'm not sure if they've kept records of what they've used over the years on various models. Spoke with a very good auto mechanic friend and told him that near as I can tell, the rear-end is supposed to be some year/model of Ford. He hasn't actually seen the trike, but told me to keep in mind that there's American Fords, Canadian Fords and Mexican Fords. He also told me that the rear brakes for the drum brake models are supposed to be "self-adjusting", but that one can't rely on the self-adjusters to work and must adjust the rear brakes by manually turning the star adjusters. In the interest of sharing Tech Info, a Lehman rep also told me the same thing.....that the adjusters must be adjusted manually every 5,000-7,000 miles.

In trying to identify exactly which Ford rear-end this might be, the only number I've found so far has been a number stamped on the top left side axle tube: "PV 01 3325".......this # meant nothing to my auto mechanic bud.

The rear differential cover is 8-sided and has an 8-bolt pattern. There's no differential drain plug, only a level/filler plug on the inner top side of the differential. To drain differential fluid, one would either have to remove one of the lower cover bolts and let it drain that way or remove the cover entirely. Is your's designed the same way ?

If anyone knows what year/model Ford this rear-end might be, that would be very much appreciated. I also realize that Lehman has used a lot of different set-ups so it might be impossible for them to supply a service manual for each and every trike, but it sure would be nice if the owners were at least told which rear-end was used on their particular trike so that they could by a Ford service manual for the rear-end section if they prefer to do their own wrenching........these Suzuki/Lehmans are 1/2 bike, 1/2 car.......workshop manuals for the bike section is no problem, but the frustration is not knowing which Ford rear-ends were used from year to year........

As regards your original question, I agree with Yogisan. Simply remove the bad part and see if an auto parts store can match it up for you.

Just checked out your pics......it does look like the Hobo model. No luggage compartment, but has the chromed luggage rack.

And if you ever have to replace the tail-light lenses or gaskets, those are more than likely Harley Davidson lights/gaskets.

Thanks Ol'Grey, I appreciate you taking the time to help me figure all this out. I had an old friend who is a retired old time mechanic and he is pretty sure that it is a mustang axle...he indicated that the part ID will not be on the exterior of the axle, but on some part inside the axle.(He told me what, but all I heard was blah blah, I was lost) Not a quick peek-see sadly.

I am not much of a wrench -head, yet, but I can see I may start... I am not too sure about my rear differential, but maybe tomorrow, I can get pics and share with you. If all of us brilliant folks put our heads together, we just may end up writing the manuals for these Lehmans!!!

Yogistan, yes I am getting the feeling that I may have to pull the parts and take it to a parts place. As I find these little gems of knowledge, I will have to figure out how to get this on here, so that if anyone else needs the info, we can share.

No problem, Littlest Hobo, and I appreciate your input as well. If we keep after it, eventually we may figure this stuff out.........From what you said about the Mustang, I just did a quick search on Bing for "Mustang II 8 bolt differential housing" and found this:

    The Mustang II Organization

Here's a copy and paste of one section of the above link:

"An identification tag is attached to one of the rear cover-to-housing retaining bolts. Image of Integral Carrier Axle"

If the copy and paste worked (it's not showing the diagram as I type, but may be there when posted) you'll see the 8 bolt, 8 sided housing cover referred to earlier. Unfortunately, the identification tag that's supposed to be attached to one of the housing cover bolts isn't on the trike and am wondering if it was on there originally or removed during the trike's assembly, I dunno......that tag would probably have offered the exact identification of which axles we've got and from which model it came from....oh well.......it's late here and time to hit the hay.....:Sleep1:

    Ride Safe..........

Quick edit.........the image didn't copy and paste, but it's the first diagram in the posted link........

    Hey Ol'Grey

I was talking about this rear end thing we are all scratching our heads about ans someone mentioned about Mustang ear ends. Dana,as I understand, was a brand used for some Mustang rear ends. I googled and I found someplace where they still distribute

    Currie Enterprises All Dana 60

Still have to get those pics of my Axle on here, but couldn't resist taking my trike for a ride to the beach today......

Thanx, LH........Checked out the Currie link earlier before going for a ride here. From what I could see, just about all of the differential housing covers had the 10 bolt pattern...........I don't enjoy working on cars and trucks, LOL! preferring instead to direct my energy towards motorcycles :Biker:......but am willing to compromise in working on my lady friend's trike with the car rear axle

So far, am leaning towards the Mustang II since it's the only one I've seen with the 8 sided, 8 bolt pattern that her's has. It'll be interesting to know if your trike has the same 8 sided, 8 bolt pattern as well.

Right on about getting some saddle-time in and heading for the beach. Gotta love it!

    Enjoy and Ride Safe.......

I'll chime in. Yes, it is a Lehman Hobo kit. I had a Lehman tech confirm that is what is on my 2000 Suzuki Intruder VS800, see my photos. I was told, by the person I got mine from that it had a Ford rearend. He told me that I could take it to a Ford dealership if I needed it worked on. But, I don't know what rearend is on mine either.

LadyKitty.........If you look under the back of the trike and at the center of the axle, you'll see the rear differential housing cover facing you. Is the cover on your's 8-sided with 8 bolts holding it on ? Just wondering if we've got the same one. Once I find out which Ford this is from, will be sure to share that info here but have been busier than I care to be lately

The Raybestos 474RP and the NAPA SS474 are the correct p/n's for the drum brake shoes on that model.

They are standard Ford Mustang 2 brakes. Get at Napa or Advanced auto. For any part info just call Lehman direct at 888-3WHEELS.
