Just picked up wife`s new ride, 06 1800VTX with 09 Motor Trike install. Never ridden one before, but done about 45yrs on 2 wheels, felt kind of weird first time out. The wife has always been in back, now she`s got her own wheels. How about some tips for a newbe?

Take it easy for the first hundred or so miles and let the fun begin.Figure 8's in a vacant parking lot is a good place to start.(the more the better).Duz not say if she has ridden by herself if not there is a lot she will not have to unlearn.RIDE SAFE

Lucky is right on target. I am also a "new" rider and this is what I did.
1. Figure 8's in a parking lot starting with large 8's, and getting smaller and smaller.
2. Practice stops and starts. Try to get off the line within 3 seconds. (Husband says cars behind lose patience in 3 seconds)
3. When she gets on, have her use turn signals, lights, gas reserve, horn without looking at them. She will need to know where everything is without looking.
4. When she has practiced on level ground and feels confident, have her practice stopping and starting on hills, start with small hills, and continue practicing on larger hills.
5. When she leaves the parking lot, have her ride in an area that has little to no traffic, and practice a loop where she has to stop and start, and build up speed to the right speed as she is comfortable.
6. If her bike does not have turn signals that turn themselves off...that even takes time to remember.
It is a process. The more time she spends, the more comfortable she will be. Tell her not to give up, because she may have a lot of frustrating moments before she reaches that point as people tell you here, that she she will suddenly be riding with the "trike grin" on her face. Best wishes and I hope this helps.

When you do the 8's in the parking lot try to do them with your left had in your pocket . This will teach you push pull. REMEMBER the back is very wide ( corners , gas pumps , tool booths other bikes ) and also on the road stay farther away from the deadly yellow line down the middle . VERY easy to find yourself ridding with the rear wheel on the wrong side because you are thinking like a bike ... there is a thread on here what new trike rider should know . It is lost again NANA where is it ?

welcome aboard glad you joined us. all good advise listed above. Really you need 4 to 5 hundred miles before things get comfortable. Outside of not leaning and being wide in the back bikes and trikes are pretty much the same. Ride like no one sees you. Good Luck and have fun. the VTX is a great trike just a little gas thristy though.
