Acc Switch

Hello everyone I am a new Trike owner we have a 2011 Tri-Glide and were loving it. I have a question about the acc switch wire under the seat I want to connect a fan to the acc switch to run a fan n stop n go traffic, the fan only has 2 wires so how can I hook to the switch wire which is a special 4 wire connector?

Go to your Harley dealer and ask for the male end of the duetch{spelling?} and then to HDTALKIN forum and ask for the diagram for this connector. Cost is about $8.00. I did this for the reverse motor o n the TowPac unit. Can" remember the connectors. When you find the diagram there is a always hot lead,one controled by theacc switch,one for ground and the 4th I can"t remember

You can also just purchase the Deutsch 4-pin plug elsewhere. It's pretty common in the auto industry. The HD adapter version is likely $20...or more. You can get the 4-pin plug off e-bay, or some similar place for less and it comes with the pins needed to attach to your device wires. OR....just remove the plug and wire-in what you want. There is usually: Brake Light, Ground, Lights (hot all time) and then the lead that is switched by the ACC flip-switch.

This is on the 2-wheeler and honestly I am guessing about the TG, but I suppose they are the same.

I would advise you to add a relay between the ACC switch and the fan. You dont want to be pulling your power supply to the fan directly through the switch. Either the switch will burn out or could cause a electric issue with your wiring.

Get a standard Bosh style relay at any Auto parts store along with 16 gauge wiring, 20 amp fuse assembly and 16g wiring connectors. I attached a simple wiring diagram to show you how to wire it up and keep the power for the fan isolated from the switch using the relay

Excellent idea. I would suppose those fan-motors do pull a good bit of current. This is the same thing HD does with the horn and starter relay. I have my auxiliary fuel pump connected to mine directly, but it does not run all the time...only when I need it, which is rare.

The Lenale cooling fan comes with pre-wired Deutch connector that plugs into that harness under the seat. It's wired to the pin that is switched with the accessory switch. Fan does a gradual spin-up and doesn't pull a surge on that circuit.

Better to be safe then sorry. I would still have a relay with a inline fuse to the relay. For less then 20 buck its cheap insurance

Additionally, After thinking about comment Boom made. Fans are suppose to spool up rather quickly. Which means a large draw of power to get them spinning. If they are turing slowly at startup , it could indicate the switch or wiring is to small for the load

I never thought much of the Lenale fan. Leonard took it back and tested it, because I thought there was something wrong with it. He refunded my money. A "leaf blower" it ain't.

I think the best cooling fan is the Harley one. It does blow the heat to the rightside but for air movement over the cylinders I havent seen a fan that is any better. It does get uncomfortable with the fan blowing while in trafric but I know my top end isnt burning up which is the highest heat temp area of the engine. The early style fans had wiring and mounting issues. I have been using mine for 3 yrs now with only one time I had to repair the mounting tab on the fan cover.

I think the connector is designed to operate two accessories at the same time, controlled by the ACC switch, thus the four wire connector.

It is designed to power 2 accessories at the same time. One set of terminals is hot and ground for the ACC switch and the other set is always hot when the ignition is turned on.
