Changing Triglide Transmission Sprocket

great article. i have another train of thought , why not change the engine sprocket instead? i don't know what all the sprocket specs are on tg's but on my 01 ultra they are 24/37 front 32/70 rear. as my figures come out my bike runs 3200rpm at 70 mph, with a 23 engine sprocket 3385rpm or with a 32 tranny sprocket 3400 rpm, not much dif and a whole lot less work. have a frankenstein kit on mine and and would like more input on this train of thought.

2007 - present touring has limited options for primary gearing changes. The only options are from Evolution Industries, they have a 49 tooth ring gear which cost around $450 on up or their engine sprocket which I don't recommend because it does away with the compensator which puts more stress on the crankshaft and its splines.

I have an 07 SEUC. When the comp assembly went bad I was talked into the EVO Industries comp sprocket when I had asked for the then new HD comp assembly. I headed home and at low speeds through town I noticed how easy it took off and the added acceleration. However as soon as I reached 55mph my arms and legs were falling asleep due to a new vibration. So ran it up to 65 and dropped it into 6th gear and the vibration got ugly so went back to 5th. Towed the bike back to the dealer and explained what happened. I will save the rest of the story but the new HD comp assembly was put in and all good again. Moral of story the comp assembly is necessary on these newer HD's.

Good thing you didn't keep riding it like that, the EVO comp assembly isn't good for a street driven motorcycle or trike unless a person is looking for a reason to replace their crank.

Just read your post. It is exactly what i was looking for. I had just picked up my motor trike conversion and noticed exactly what you stated. If a 30t makes that much difference, i will have to give it a try.
First thing that went through my mind is that i lost my 103 hotrod. Thanks again

The change from 3.15 to 3.37 would make a difference across the board. The job isn't too terrible if you have the service manual a press and are mechanically inclined. The below 3 pictures of my 06 Ultra Classic will give you an idea of how far apart it will have to come to make the swap.

I wonder if i changed the 66t rear to a 68t, if it accomplish the same thing. Just wondering,...............thanks

ratio on top line is 2.0625

second line 2.33 ratio, so lower gearing

to 68 rear would be 2.125.

so in the middle

The 06 Ultra runs a 70 tooth rear and 32 tooth front, final drive in 5th gear is 3.15.

has anyone swapped out thier 1 1/2" belt to a 1" or 1 1/8". just ripped my 3rd belt which was heavy duty with 33,000 miles on it, 10,000 on trike, and ripped off the inside rim off the rear sprocket, so am going to replace both pulleys also. 01 ultra classic with frankenstein kit.

sounds like the rear axle is slightly out of line , causeing the belt to run off center

Something isn't right, those belts are strong. I'd be double checking alignment and look to see if its rubbing or the sprockets.

I know one thing for certain you dont want a 1 inch x 139 tooth belt just schredded one
Its a non harley part of course.

Bought the 2010 TG used in July and have now 8000 miles I put on it.

Just road it 150 miles today (yes in Michigan) and can almost kick myself for not putting the 30 tooth in it before now. Sure is easier and more fun to ride now, and after this winter I will get the TTS tuner. Not real sure I need a cam change if the tuner will help it some more.I have the stage 1 and the catless header in it too,but the 30th was really worth it and not that hard to do.
I think I will have withdrawels this winter,unless I get snow tires, hahaha.

I am also from Michigan, Monroe County area. Do alot of shopping at Cement City Harley. Love riding in that area with the wiffee on the weekends. Rick is the man to see for Trike parts. He seems to know what we want. I don't have the sprocket change yet; but have the Cam and Stage 1 setup and love it! Not sure if the sprocket change would change my Dyno work.? Will have to ask my mechanic about that one.

Sprocket change won't change the tune.

If you have a motor trike irs kit what belt are you running after making this conversion to the 30 tooth we are having a helluva time finding a 1 inch x 139 tooth gates say they make one but its really a 1 1/8 and the falcon from goodyear is a joke

Or let me say it isnt near hd enough for a trike

just finished replacing my 1 1/2" pulley with an 1 1/8" harley part # 40217-04 everything lined right up and a 30 mile test ride all looks good. am doing a much longer ride today. did not change the front pulley as there was no need.
