Thread: Gear indicator..

  1. #1

    Default Gear indicator..

This one is a great problem....

I have fitted a gear indicator clock on the wing, the one with all the pain in the arse magnets on the front wheel, Ready? this is the problem.....
In each gear you have to bring up the rev's to 2000-3000 in each gear, then push a pin in the back of the dig-box to set each gear. this is fine if you are on a bike rolling road, eg. A dinojet centre. or a rolling road for a car. the problem being is that i own a trike. and unless I know a guy, 12 inches high, with balls of steel to sit on my tank, while i give it a fist full, to the tune of, 90 MPH. i think i am going to give up, and remove the thing. £100.00 down on the deal......

The wing has a port with a gear indicator built in . There are companies that make a gear indicator for the wing that plugs into that . One is DAVESCYCLE PARTS. I will have to look up the exact web page.

    Thumbs up Re: Gear indicator..

Wish they made a "plug & play" unit for the Valks.

Always thought that a gear indicator,, ALONG,,, with a fuel gauge would be excellent additions.

Here is one from Air Rider, combination gear indicator/voltmeter, both for the GL1500 and a few versions for the GL1800. As John said, things get more involved if your Wing has ABS.

Motorcycle Products, Wireless Bluetooth, Headsets, Nolan, HGC, Helmets, Seats, CB Radio

We have intercoms from them, and some other stuff. Always had good customer service.

I was surprised to find that Goldwings are not factory equipped with gear position indicators (except for top gear).

I just ordered a gear indicator from Air Ride. In their advertisement they state for Gold Wings up to 2006. I called them and the unit will work in my 2008 if I don't have the heated grips. I'll post when I've had a chance to install and try out.

Have installed the Air Ride Gear/Volt indicator. With 200+ miles it has worked great. My wife thought it would be a big help to her especially at stops, when one forgets to down shift enough. Now a quick look at the gauge tells you what gear your in and the volts you have available.

The installation was a bit long as I still don't have the owners manual and used the internet to get ideas on how to remove stuff, like trim strips, the seat, and some of the many types of plastic connectors that hold the plastic in place. The instructions from Air Ride were spot on! Only one simple modification was necessary. The power plug was changed starting with the 2006 model, so I had to find an alternate source. I added a 30" length of wire to one of the plugs and routed it to the other(left) side of the bike and plugged it into the auxiliary power adapter connector. This is the stock adapter located in the left compartment of the upper faring.

    Nice job Air Ride!

Air Rider makes and carries some good stuff, and they have had very good customer service when I talked to them on the phone. We'll be seeing one of the crews in a few weeks at the Davis Rally, been thinking about getting the voltmeter/gear indicator for Her Purpleness.

The easiest solution is to trade for a BMW. The gear indicator is standard equipment along with electrically operated windshield that goes up and down and tilts, etc., etc.
