Since my last posting, I received an email from a guy in town who makes his living installing all kinds of trike kits (3 and 4 wheels). He came up with the best explanation, at least the way Ohio sees it:
Marcia,
What you were told is correct.
If you have a motorcycle license you can drive a motorcycle and a trike.
If you have a trike license you can only drive a trike.
What you have is technically a motorcycle with a trailer attached to your bike.
You can take a written test for a motorcycle license. If you pass you can get a learners permit which I believe is good for one year.
There are restrictions, (can't ride at night, can't ride with a passenger, etc.) but you will be legal for one year.
Hope I have been helpful.
Ride safe,
I don't think of my "outrigger bike/trike" as a trailer, but I guess the state classifies it that way. If I SOMEhow manage to get a 2 wheel endorsement, I might be ok. I think the one guy was out of line with his threat regarding riding an illegal vehicle!! If motorcycles can tow trailers, I should be able to "tow" a couple of extra wheels!
