Default Slip-On Recommendations For My 2011 Tri Glide Ultra Classic

I have a 2011 H-D Tri Glide Ultra Classic. I am replacing the stock headers/catalytic converter with Jackpot 2-1-2 stainless steel headers. I am installing a high-flow air cleaner and have purchased the Dynojet Power Vision ECM flash tuner. Once the changes are made, I might replace the stock slip-on mufflers, depending on how the originals sound and function.

I'd like recommendations on replacement slip-ons for a Tri Glide. My spouse rides with me and we appreciate being able to talk and listen to music on the road, so I don't want extremely loud mufflers. In fact, I'd like mufflers that are street-legal in places like Denver, as I frequently ride there. (I had Vance & Hines Monster Ovals on my previous 2003 Ultra Classic and loved them.)

As you can see in the photo, the cut-outs in the trunk are round, and the new slip-ons have to fit into the cut-outs reasonably well. Can you make suggestions for free-er flowing slip-on mufflers for the bike? Thanks.

I'm sure you will get tons of recommendations but here is my favorite.

    $200 for the kit.

I used the 1.75 quiet baffles.

Like you my bride and I do alot of traveling and ride the interstates quite often. We also like to talk and not interested in loud. I have the 4" SE mufflers. They are 50 state street legal. Have a nice deep rumble at high way speeds and will bark when you twist the wick.

Sound is relative and and as the Wiz said you will get alot of varied opinions. Good luck in your search.

IMO, the best slipon's to complement what you've bought is FuelMoto's Dyna Tuned Jackpot's with quiet baffles. I have them with standard baffle. They sound great with the cat, but are too loud without. After all they are dyna tuned to match the header you just bought.

After installing the 2-1-2 headpipe, the FM dyno tuned mufflers were too loud for me. Tried an experiment by putting the stockers back on. Love 'em with the cat gone. There's now a set of FM mufflers in the garage collecting dust.

I just put on a set of supertrapp stout 4" and the sound is just perfect not to load and has a nice rumble. Had to adjust the fuel mixture a bit noticed the bike ran a bit hotter when installed.

Vance & Hines has a new slip on muffler that is designed especially for tri-glides. They're called the Trike Deluxe. They advertise as to improve ground clearance and provide a deep rich stereo friendly tone.

I have a set of FuelMoto carbon fiber slipons, their newest addition I will sell for $450.00 plus shipping. I had them on my 2011 Triglide for 300 miles. They are perfect condition just found something I liked better. You can see them on their website, I paid 700.00 plus shipping. You can email me at helipilot@Triad.rr.com if interested. Thanks, Jerry

I might be interested. What do they sound like? What kind of end-cap do they have? Do they protrude quite far from the back end? Are they louder than the stock?

Yes they are louder than stock, they have billet aluminum end caps on both ends, they are beautiful. Jackpot Carbon Fiber mufflers
That is a link to a picture. Thanks, Jerry

A friend and I tore into the Tri Glide Saturday morning at 0800. We removed the stock slip-on mufflers, removed the stock header/catalytic converter, removed the stock air cleaner, installed a Jackpot stainless steel 2-1-2 header, replaced the stock slip-ons, installed a new high-flow Stage 1 air cleaner and re-flashed the ECM with a new tune using the Dynojet Power Vison from Fuel Moto.

The job went well, but here are a few pointers for anyone thinking about doing a similar job:

    • The Jackpot SS header has a squared-off billet flange, unlike the tapered stock flange. Thus, the stock replacement mesh gasket will not fit. I had to use a Cosmetic crush gasket.
    • A new gasket is required to re-mount the cross-over pipe to the new header. Because I did not know this, we had to make a 110 mile round-trip to the H-D dealer in Fargo to purchase one Saturday afternoon.
    • The ECM diagnostic port is under the left side-cover. I thought it was under the seat. I could not find any reference to its location in the service manuals for Touring and Tri Glide bikes or on Google.

Here are some photos from the day. We finished the job at 1930 Saturday evening.

Preparing to work. We jacked up one side of the bike at a time for muffler removal. We bungeed the front brake and engaged the parking brake, as well as blocked up the rear wheel:

Seat, backrest and side-cover removed exposing the O2 sensors:

    Mufflers removed:

    Floor board and header removed:

Mesh port gasket in place. Must be removed and replaced with crush gasket:

    Jackpot header installed:

Struggling to remove the metal bracket over the throttle body on stock air cleaner. Requires Allen wrench and a lot of patience:

Throttle body exposed for air cleaner installation:

I took the bike out for a ride after the upgrade, and the improvement was not subtle. There was a tremendous increase in horsepower and quickness. The stock pipes are significantly louder with the catalytic converter gone. The Fuel Moto products fit PERFECTLY.

Is there a muffler in that picture somewhere?

I'm running stock exhaust port gaskets with no problem, depending on the mileage you can reuse the crossover pipe gasket. I reused mine a couple times before I had to replace it. Now since you've done the job I'll bet you are much quicker the next time. I've had exhaust off so many times between mine and my dads trikes I can pull it and reinstall in about an hour while chatting and drinking coffee. Doing the air cleaner mod without lifting the tank sure can try ones patients, I took an allen wrench and cut some off the shorter 'L' side and found it worked like a charm.

I was actually surprised at how easily the slip-ons came off and went on. The stock mufflers seem to handle the increased air flow with no problem, but they are significantly louder. I'm not sure I like the new sound, so I'll probably be looking around for some replacements. Re-flashing the ECM with a new program from Fuel Moto for a new set of mufflers will literally take only five minutes.

I've never run across a muffler which was quieter than stock, their pretty quiet.
