Considering getting an enclosed trailer

I'm at the point that I'd like to look into getting my Valk trike a dual axle, v-nosed enclosed trailer. I'd also like your opinions regarding using this trailer to permanently house the trike. Of course, I'm concerned about dampness and if storing the trike in one of these would be a bad call.

I'm in Central Virginia and was wondering if any of you might be able to recommend a good trailer supplier within a days ride?

I just had a couple delivered from Hurricane trailers in Georgia (search cargo trailer on ebay) --they are a pretty good made trailer , service is not real good , seems the right hands don't know what the left hands are doing most the time,
i got a 6X12 v nose for my trike @ 2376.00 delivered to Michigan

While on the subject of trailers, is a single axle a good option for hauling a trike?

I have a 7x12 single axle enclosed, weight limits are ok for the trike, I just made sure to get a spare. longest trip was from Colorado to Alabama this past June. no trouble coming or going.

We have a Wells Cargo, 7 x 14 v-nose single axle, that we customized as a toy hauler. Bought it bare bones from the manufacturer in Waco, but we did the flooring and then let them wire the electric - we did everything else: center chock, cupboards, a bathroom, cable tv, big cooler, screen door, doorbell, A/C, heater, flat screen tv w/DVD player and Wii setup, microwave. Ready to go camping with two queen beds, but we don't camp. Just a toy for John! There's a picture on my profile of the interior and the ramp door.

A tad on the pricey side, but it looks good sitting in the driveway - the trike fits nicely, although we don't use the trailer for storage. Never trailered the trike anywhere - we prefer to ride, even on 'big trips', but it's there if we need it.

Check out your local dealers for Wells Cargo trailers - they're really nice people to work with.

I have a 6X12 single axle LoadRunner trailer and I am very happy with it hauling my CSC trike.



We just returned from a trip to Cody Wy from So Cal - 2100 miles round trip and it pulled like a dream. We were cruising at 75mph for a lot of the time and we never had any issues with it.

The CSC JUST fits in the door. Wit the ramp version you have 63" and the trike is right at 60" so it's close but I never had a problem loading or unloading.



I mounted a Harbor Freight chock ( like a Condor one) and it holds the trike very securely in the front. I use tie downs in the front over the lower tree and ones in the back across to the trailer hitch.



I built a shelf in the upper front, installed tie down tracks and made a plywood separator that mounts behind the rear of the trike so we can put luggage or whatever back there without worrying about it hitting the rear of the trike.



Things to consider when looking for a trailer . . .

Get a good one - not a cheap one ! Sounds obvious but a few hundred is NOTHING when you end up stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Get one the has strong hinges on the doors. The cheap ones will bend and not seal correctly.

Get a spare tire

Get a front door

Get or install bearing buddys

Upgrade to the LED lights for run,stop & turn

Don't bother with a vent in the roof - it WILL crack and leak !

Get the folding stands that are mounted at the rear of the trailer so that you can load the trike without it being hooked up to the towing vehicle.

As I said. when looking at them a few hundred more to get a GOOD trailer is more than worth it in the long run.

Great Video. I went to their site but didn't see any reference to them having trailers for motorcycles or trikes. None with the fold down ramp door either. Guess I'll give them a call being that they do have a location right here in Virginia.

My cage is a Dodge Caravan.
1. Is that suitable for hauling an enclosed trailer for a trike?
2. Would such a trailer (with drop-down ramp) be suitable as a garage for a trike?
3. How about getting a "portable" garage that does not require a building permit?
I'm at the decision-making crossroads and am open to all ideas.

Trailers work great for garaging trikes----Hurricane Cargo in Fitzgerald Ga sell a 6 x 12 v nose for 1901.00 with d ring tie downs 6" extra height and jack stands on rear corners.
You probably wouldn't need the extra height , i use for other things that required the extra height

I have an enclosed trailer that I bought to carry my trike. Have used it twice in five yrs. The only concern I would have using the trailer for storing the trike would be the constant load of the trike causing the trailer suspension to sag over time.

That's another reason why I want a tandem axle trailer.

If you get it equipped with two pad jacks on the rear corners (65.99) , they will keep the weight off the suspention.

I bought a regular aluiminum utility trailer with 24" center on the floor.
When standing between centers on the floor it is spongy.
I had tubing welded in between the factory installed beams on the floor to stiffen it up.
Now I have 12" centers and you can jump up and down on it and it is solid!
Just think if your back wheels of your trike sat between the 24" centers bouncing down the road.
In fact just think if you stored the trike in the trailer ...........the floor would have to sag or break over time.
