Cycle-Tow for trikes

I was wondering if anyone has, or has tried a cycle-tow for their trike. I have a Honda Gold Wing trike and would like to know if pulling it on the rear wheels would hurt it in any way. I would like to use this tow behind a motor home. Also would like to know if it is really a safe tow.

I don't really know for sure but would not want to have the rear wheels on the ground. Wouldn't want the drive shaft and diff to be turning.

I wonder how a 2 wheel car hauler would work(the ones u tie the front wheels down and has basically a hitch and axle)? At least the front wheel would be on the ground. I would want to secure the front handle bars so they don't turn.

some guys have made some nice trike haulers ones on this site.just put a bolt thru the frame so it doesn't pivit.andyou would need some angle iron braceing etc. weld a motorcycle stand w/ wheel chock on the tomgue end .. northern tool has a heavy duty one for abour 69.00.do a searck on this and h d talikng forume, or v twin forume

I my honest opinion. put your trike on a trailer. There is a lot of stress on the fork tubes while turning, plus tire wear not to mention rear end and drive line are always working.

IMO, towing is not an option. Any configuration is not good, especially dragging the rear wheels on the ground since the driveline is always turning. One real danger is the transmission dropping into gear because of harsh bumps. This would tear things up quickly. For probably little additional money I would opt for the trailer and be safe.

This subject comes up quite often on a Reverse trike Forum, Then after 15 or 20 posts about the pitfalls about towing that way,The original poster gos out and buys a trailer, Smart move, Strap it down on a trailer its the safe and worry free way to go.

It probably would be a smart idea to buy a trailer instead. but the problem I have with that is storage. In this great city we are not allowed to park a trailer behind your house, although, you are allowed to park a boat on a trailer behind your house, Maybe I should buy a canoe to put on the trailer and it would be allowed!

" You could park your trike on the trailer when not in use. Or...

Suzie has a pair of "shock shackles" that I bolt on and then attach my "custom made tow bar" to her. I have the ease of just removing the drive chain when I haul her anywhere. No weight load on my tow vehicle, no bike transmission turning, only the differential idling along. I got the idea from seeing a coach that was hauling a trike via a tow-bar on the interstate.

Works good for me.

does the regulation say how big the "boat" must be? find a really, really small one.
