1500 honda

I am in the process of shopping for a trike and need advice on whether an older 1500 would be a reliable investment. I don't know much about trikes, but have settled on a Honda. The question I have concerns the 1500 model. There are several for sale at a price I can afford, but I am concerned about buying a trike that is more than 10+ years old. Many of these trikes have mileage under 50K. I know the engine typically goes for over 200K in miles, but what about things like seals, plastic, rubber parts, etc. Is that something to be concerned about if the trike is cosmetically good and low on the miles?

Welcome geraldlanc! Glad you joined us.Our Pearl is a 1990SE/motortrike. It was trked at 52000 miles and I have never regreted it a bit. It now has 71000 miles on it with no problems other than normal maint.IMO 1500's are almost bullet proof.A lot of it has to do with how well it is matained.Good luck with your search.RIDE SAFE

Welcome Geraldlanc. I owned a 1500 two wheeler for 9 years. Never had any problems with it. Just the regular maintenance. The bike had 78K on it when I sold it. The new owner said it ran like new. It was a 93 interstate. Whatever year you decide check that year for any recalls or problems with the bike. To my knowledge, I believe there were some type of problems with the earlier 1500. (88 thru 91)

The 1500 is a very reliable bike as long as you keep the maintenance up. (Especially the CARBS) As for the seals, plastic, rubber parts, etc, it all depends on how the owner kept the bike. Like I said before, I didn't have any of those issues with my bike. I think it is something to worry about because you are spending your money. If you are getting a good deal for a trike, then some of those things can be over looked.

Keep searching until you find the right trike that fit your budget. Then really check the bike out. (Take someone with you that is knowledgeable) I hope this help.

One more thing; The 99 and 00 years goldwings, are a little shorter in the front than the 1988 thru 1998; And they have no engine guards like the older ones. Good Luck.

96 1500se with a 06 lehman kit.
Changed the altenator to a compufire altenator at thirty thousand,had to replace fuel pump at fifty thousand.
Just turned ninty seven thousand miles on it to day.
Have seen 1500s with way over two hundred thousand miles on them.
The last time they had wing ding at fort wayne In, saw a 1500 with 500 thousand miles on it.
The only piece of advice I can give is make sure it is a se. modle,it has all the goodys.

I have just convered my 2000 Goldwing by Champion I have 44000 miles. I am very happy with it. i choose older supenion because the age of the bike. I think this a very good investment. The golwing will go many miles and the conversion is new.

Worst case scenario would be you'd have to catch up on some maintanance. All very doable for even a mechanical dufus like me! Belts, filters,(and there are several), and the alternator, and you're golden for a long time. Most anyone with a 25-30,000 dollar investment, will have babied the trike anyway! Anything that can and does go wrong, is usually onlt a minor pain in the butt, but not a disaster. Timing belt failure being the only exeption. I'd say, if it is in a comfortable price range, and you got a couple hundred buck you can spend on maint., GO FOR IT!!! The 1500 is a tank! jimsjinx
