Tour Pack Luggage Rack

I'm getting a trike soon. It's a Road King conversion so it will have only the original sissy bar/back rest on it. No tour pack.

I've seen a lot of chrome luggage racks on top of tour packs, both Harleys and Gold Wings. Most seem to be kind of like a basket with both the front and back edges raised. Some seem just to have a raised back (that goes against the seat) and an otherwise level platform. (Am I describing them right?)



Anyway, I'm probably going to need a luggage rack to put directly on the top of the trike kit (without the tour pack).

For those of you that have the luggage racks, what do you like about yours and where did you get it? Do you have any recommendations?

You will probably want to wait to get your rack until you get your trike. Most of the kits have some variation in the top of the body. My Champion kit on my Fat Boy drops slightly in the center, with a distinct curve at that level change. I had to find the rack that would fit either in the narrow center where it is flat, or a much larger rack that would span across the drop and mount on the raised flat area. I opted for the smaller rack and used rubber spacers to level it as needed. Click above to see pictures that will clarify what I mean. Fortunately Harley has a good variety of tour pack luggage racks to choose from. You should be able select one that will fit your kit and meet your needs.

I see what you are talking about. Waiting to be sure is probably a good idea.

I really don't need that big of a luggage rack since the primary purpose will be to hold my wife's oxygen tank.

Then, again, who knows. I might go grocery shopping and realize I need a big pack of toilet paper or paper towels that I'll have to bungee on top of the luggage rack.

The area to mount the rack on the top horizontal body panel will dictate a large part of what racks will or will not work on your trike. That coupled with the shape and mounting points (footprint) as Nana adeptly details above are the two pieces/variables you will need to make an informed and "remorse-free" decision.

When the time comes, check J&P (jpcycles.com) and Dennis Kirk as both carry a good selection and offer quality at a reasonable and fair price. Many others in your situation have done just this with desireable results and lasting satisfaction.
