Default C90 to Jackal Conversion

I'm thinking of sending my 2007 C90 to the Lehman factory to have them convert it into a jackal. Has anyone out there done this? I'd love to hear how it worked out. Also, can anyone tell me why Lehman doesn't sell kits for this conversion.

Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to TrikeTalk, Howard.
You may want to do some double checking on the status of the factory. Lehman has said that they are considering some changes in their business structure, and I'm not sure that they are working at full steam at the present time. See this link for details: http://www.triketalk.com/forum/indus...p-selling.html

thanks for the feedback. The discussion you referenced was in 2008 so I'm going to do a little digging via the financial markets to see what finally transpired.

Howard, the press release was dated 11/2/11. See the original PDF here: http://www.lehmantrikes.com/img/cms_news/194_1.pdf

I believe this is a NEW restructuring of their business, and not simply the 2008 event.

I looked at some of their financials. They don't appear to be in very good shape. If I were to go through with the deal i would be worried about warranty support. I would like to trike out my C90 because I've done all the maintenance on it myself and know that it is in great condition. But, I might have to trade for something else. Too bad nobody else sells C90 kits.

The Jackal is a "turn-key" trike. Lehman bought the C90's from Suzuki, did the conversion and the Lehman dealers sell them under the Lehman brand name, Jackal. They did the same with the Suzuki C50 (Lehman Tramp). I have a 2007 C90 Jackal. I'm pretty sure Lehman didn't sell the conversion kits because that would undermine their Jackal/Tramp brand name product. I've heard that Jackal kits can be bought but that could be just a rumor. I haven't been able to verify it. By the way, there are still new Jackals on the market. Check the Dealer section of the Lehman website. You may want to call Lehman to see if they are selling the kits by themselves.

The other option is selling your C90 and buying a Jackal.

I took your suggestion and sent them an email asking if they were selling the kits. I'm a pretty good mechanic and could install it myself.

The big problem right now seems to be whether or not Lehman will be around for long. I'd hate to ship my C90 off to them just to find out they went belly up and I can't get it back. Plus, if they do convert it, I'd have to be concerned about the warranty.

Converting mine would be the cheapest solution since I already own the C90, but buying some other trike and selling my C90 is starting to look like my best option.

I understand your fears about shipping the C90 to them for conversion. And I also understand your postion about already having a C90. Are you aware that the Lehman Jackal comes with the standard 3-year warranty on the Lehman conversion and maintains the Suzuki warranty on the C90 portion? Also, you can extend the Suzuki warranty just as if you bought the C90 2-wheeler. That's what I did. The warranty setup was part of the deal between Suzuki and Lehman when they did the joint "turn-key" build. HOWEVER, that was in effect in 2007 when I bought mine. If you lean towards getting a Jackal you might want to check and see if that warranty option still exists. I would check with Lehman and a backup check with Suzuki also.

The Jackal is a great trike. For my first shot at becoming a trike owner/rider I think I really hit a home run with it.

Did you have an existing C90 converted or did you buy an existing original factory rig?

I bought the completed trike. Lehman didn't sell a conversion kit then and, as far as I know, Lehman doesn't sell a coversion kit for the C90 now, only the complete trike.

I have a 2008 C90 with a 2010 Lehman conversion. I love it so far. Only have a little over 3000 miles on it and as of yet ...not one problem. I like the way it handles. I bought mine already converted from a Suzuki dealer. I now have a storage box that matches the trike on the luggage rack. Doesn't look like the pic any more.

I have a 2006 Suzuki C90, that I sent to lehman last spring to be turned into a trike. I got in back in April, and now it's time to look for a spot for a winter rest. They did a real nice job at lehman, nothing but thumbs up all of the time. Even when I dont want to talk trikes, I'm always asked about it when I stop, even at red lights. The only thing I would like to improve is top end. I got stuck in the passing lane on the highway, and almost didn't have the power to get by some trucks playing grab butt. 85-90 is way fast on a trike but I could have used more to pass and get on my way. I know my next one will have the most HP/CC's I can get. For running around I don't think that anything is better than my trike. My drop top mustang just sits around taking up space. The one thing that I would caution you about, is I did not get back my parts, which I thought I could sell to help with the cost. My dealer also thought that they would be returned. I could see them looking at the bottom line, with Harley going in house, and the lack of jobs in the country now, hoping it can be worked out.

thanks for all the feedback. My dealer also told me I would receive all the removed parts - I'll check with the factory.

Here's the response to my inquiry to Lehman

We normally dispose/recycle of the take off parts but would be willing to ship back the parts for a additional shipping fee. We have found that in some cases the cost of shipping the parts back sometimes out weighs the value of the parts. But we would absolutely be willing to accommodate either way

    HowardOfOcal,
Your local Lehman dealer installer has access to the 2007-later C-90 conversion kit as of late 2010. Since the newer dealers that have been brought on board seem to rely on the factory to do these conversions, I understand your delemma. If you are able to find a Lehman builder installer within a reasonable distance, your parts will be returned to you and they offer the same warranty that Lehman Factory does.
I build them in our shop and they make a good solid conversion. With the economy being what it is presently, you might find a C-90 Lehman factory conversion for sale at around the same price as it would cost to convert yours.
    Probably a 2008 model.

I build them in our shop and they make a good solid conversion.

Lee: I sent an email to Lehman asking if I had to send my C90 to them or if a local dealer could do the conversion. They responded

" I do not have a list of dealers that are factory trained that I could send you.
The dealers that are not factory trained offer a factory conversion service that includes pick up and delivery of your bike to and from the dealership."

Seems a little strange that they don't have such a list. How would they know who they could sent a kit to?

Since you do conversions, have you ever heard of a kit manufacturer called "American Trikes". The do a C90 conversion with a kit that is different from anything I've seen before. It uses the drive shaft and rear gears from my C90 to drive the rear axle. There is no universal joint. The rear brake is a single disk also attached to the axle. If I know how to attach a picture to this message I could send you a picture of their kit.

I thought about selling my C90 and buying a used Jackel, but I've done all the maintenance on my C90 and know it is in top shape engine wise, so I'd like to convert it if I could.
