Default Frankenstien trike conversion

I am looking for any input, good or bad, about the Frankenstien conversion kit. For several reasons this is the kit I am leaning towards. Good or bad let me know please. Thanks Steve

We have several members with Frankenstein kits, and I have heard nothing but praises from all of them. Hopefully they chime in here with specifics, but from what I've heard and seen it is a well made, top quality kit. It's unique, body-less look doesn't suit everyone, but for those who don't care about trunk space, the Frankenstein gives you one hotrod looking trike!

I love my Frankenstein. We did it ourselves - there are photos of the build on my profile. The kit was totally complete, and the instructions were great. We did sort of a custom build, putting the narrow "sport" rear end on a dyna instead of on a sportster, and it made some of the instructions a little interesting, but the guys at Frankenstein were available by phone - more than once - and it worked out fine. The engineering is amazing, tolerances are very tight and everything fit together just as it was designed to. When you send your swingarm in, send your sprocket and it will come back mounted so you don't have to worry about the tolerances or the spacing.
There are a couple of things to be aware of, that I did not realize at first - you will need to get the swingarm powder-coated. The fenders will also need to be painted. This means that when you finally get the huge stack of boxes, you can't actually DO anything with them for a little while longer......
The other thing that I can seriously recommend is that you DO get the triple tree rake kit. We did the rear end the day before we did the tree, and I took it around the block with the stock tree.

It was terrifying! The rake makes a HUGE difference.
There is a cool point about the Frankenstein kit in that with a new swingarm, you can go back to 2-wheels if you want to. I never will!

Thanks this is what I need to hear and ,from what I am reading expected to hear about this kit. Frankenstiens kit price seems the best deal out there, one price includes EVERYTHING(except paint). One question, though, how is your braking power with the single rotor, I am thinking of the outboard brakes they offer. With such a light kit I imagine that your fuel mpg was not affected at all, was it? The fact that the bike can be put back to stock is very appealling and the kit put on a newer year. Again THANKS

Godar,
I did a Sportster with the Frankenstein conversion. I bought the bike in pieces and had an authorized dealer install the kit prior to re-assembling the bike.
No problems whatsoever with the kit!
I have seen some other brand kits and can attest that the Frankenstein is the most complete. It's nice getting everything from one source.
I ordered the double disc brakes and have never regretted it. It stops great!
I ordered them because I was originally going to ditch the front brake but ended up running it anyway. Overkill? Maybe. But I would definitely order the twin discs if I did another conversion.

PS: My swingarm came powder coated from the factory. All I had to do was send the fenders out for paint.

Thanks, again another positve comment. With the other kits out there that have the bodies and all, it is amazing that frankenstien can make a kit that is so light weight wise but yet be sooo dependable.

The more I am reading the more I am leaning towards Frankenstien. Thanks for the info.

Good luck with your build godar, I put one together for my wife on her 2008 sporty low and it looks awesome. My swingarm also came powder coated so no problem there. I bought the entire kit as well. pipes shocks blacked out wheels. I looked at every other kit out there and just loved the looks of the frankie the most, and the price was real competitive and quality was great. I put it together with the help of a freind, it took about 3 1/2 hours to remove old pipes and swingarm and put the new stuff on, another 1 1/2 hours for the raked triple trees "which is a must". got the fenders back from paint just havn`t posted pics of the painted fenders yet but looks great. Get alot of looks from other bikers trying to figure it out so thats always fun. But all and all a great product for a reasonable price. Very happy with my wifes

Obviously a GOOD product because I can't find or am I hearing anything bad or negative. My mind is 90% made up on getting the Frankenstien kit. Thanks again

Hi, I'm new here, but came to this forum because we are in the process of installing the Frankenstien kit on a 2009 Nightster. I'll let you know how it goes when it's done. We also did a lot of research and decided to go with the Frankenstien kit. It was encouraging to hear the positive comments here.

Our Nightster Frankenstein trike is done, and it turned out fantastic. Everyone was totally pleased with the kit. Everything fit together well and the ride is great.
I would recommend Frankenstein. Not sure if I can post a pic or not, I'll try

Steve,
If you want trunk space you can make your own. See my photos I have a Frank rearend on. I am also one of the trikes on their web site, Dan's 1999 eglide. (Before I added the rear trunk.)

Welcome, Bob Cat! We have a number of sportster conversions on the forum. I'm not sure if any are huggers, but I'm sure those owners will speak up when they see your question. You might do a search in the GARAGE for sportsters to pull up those who have posted pictures.
