What fuel? Anyone ever use Aviation fuel?

Another example of people thinking they know more about that motor than the engineers that designed it.The recommend fuel is right in your HD owners manual. You don't have a high performance race motor and never will. These motors are designed to run off the rot gut pump swill that passes for gasoline these days.As far as Stabil-nope.I use Seafoam and lately in my Harleys, Lucas Ethanol Treatment. No advantage to using race gas, avgas.Try some JP4.Post pics.

I use Sea Foam and Marvel Mystery oil in my gas

Here in Fl I ride year round so Stabil is not needed

I can run 90 octane Ethanol free gas with out ping

My guess is the knock sensors adjust the timing for lower octane fuel;)

Wow, lots of opinions about high octane gaso. Don't know where you folks got your info but a great deal of it must be "hearsay". In the refinery I worked in, all high octane gaso. comes from the alkylation still in the refinery, so there's NOT a lot more refining. In fact, the alkylation still is the end of the line. Nor does high octane gaso, burn faster, slower, hotter, cooler or cleaner. It burns the same as every other gaso. except it resists knocking to a greater degree. The reason it burns the same as every other gaso is because it must meet the same distillation lab requirements to be labeled gaso.

It won't hurt anything to run high octane in your bike, or even your weed eater or lawn mower. It's just way more expensive.

aviation fuel

I remember when I was in the Navy I was in a squadron of T-28's (old turboprop planes) we had a guy that was broke and decided he would just sneek out and drain some fuel from one of the wing tanks, since he had a hot date. well he started the truck fine but after about 15 minutes the block was glowing red, to make matters worse he decided the "smart" thing to do was throw water on it, you could have probably hear that block crack a block away. Point of the story is...I don't recommend using aircraft fuel unless you are putting it in a airplane.

Just my 2 cents

The reason for different octane ratings has a lot to do with the compression ratio of an engine . The higher the compression ratio of an engine the higher the octane is called for to stop pre ignition (Knock ) using lower octane in a high compression engine the air fuel mixture will ignite before a full compression stroke…All modern engines now come equipped with knock sensors to compensate for a Lower Octane it’s not 100% cure for the occasional low octane that might’ve been used by accident or by other circumstances..So in essence Lower Octane fuel will ignite sooner than high octane fuel during a compression stroke..

In the bygone days if you use low octane gas in a hi compression engine and accelerated hard up a grade it sounded like you were dropping marbles into a tin coffee can..
