10 reasons NOT to visit Australia

Had a chance to go in 1968 but took a pass on R&R so I could get out of Nam a month early. As it turned out, I still wound up serving a year in country. Should have went to Australia. My friends that went really liked it!! LOL!!! Our chow hall served mutton about once a week. A big joke was that Australia would only participate if we bought the sheep!! Prolly would have been OK if our cook knew how to cook it.......trust me....he didn't!!!

Hey Greydog. Sounds typical of the mateship Aussies have with you guys.

I joined the RAAF in 1973. At 17 years old I was among the Aussie Vietnam veterans at the bases I worked. They were always full of practical jokes. Sadly agent orange and mental issues plaqued a lot of them. Some suicided.

At the end of the war when soldiers arrived by boat at Townsville Nth Queensland they were pelted with eggs and tomatoes by the anti war low life.

It was a shameful period. And I beleive we have been trying ever since to make it up to the veterans by understanding them.

It was only a week ago a guy told me he served in Nam. I shook his hand and told him I was proud of him. His eyes welled up.

They deserve a good old age.

I was disappointed with the song. Not a mention that if you go "backpacking" in remote areas you may get dragged into the scrub and murdered.

Maybe they couldn't fit it in..... as well as being eaten by dingos. LOL! I loved the song! :D

Yes. That's a great ad. May I add " a Rip-snorter of an ad, you bloody beauty".

Oh no ! I'm having an "Adventure of Barry Mackenzie" moment. ( A hugely popular movie in its day that now makes many Auzzies cringe with its "ockerisms").

Ok.
A Rip-snorter = exceptionally good thing.
You bloody beauty = term of endearment, non gender specific. An exclamation of approval directed at persons or objects.

Does that help ?

well this little fellow I came across at Boho South about 3 miles form my country home. Cute eh.

oh, and here's our home at Strathbogie Victoria Australia. 2 hours north of Melbourne on the way towards Sydney 6 hours further on. We live at the foothills of the mountains on a tableland.
