Looking for advice

Hi all,

Name's Bob. I don't ride anything now but back in the day I had a Bonneville and a Yamaha RD, broke my back in 1990 and haven't ridden since ... now (if I can convince the wife) I wanna get back to riding with friends I have that ride.

The wife thinks I'm just having a late mid-life crisis but the truth is that with my back getting worse and after 3 knee surgeries I can't even work on my Riv anymore and I'm sick to death of sitting around the house deciding what to watch next ... especially now that football season's coming to a close again (I always get an itch this time of year)

Anyway, I signed on here hoping I could get some good advice on the best trike for a guy my size (6'1 330) with a bad back and knees. An auto trans is a must, my left knee is the worse of the two.

I like the looks of the of Rat Fink style VW trikes but the only one of those I've sat on would need to be stretched at least a foot. A Stallion looks interesting but possibly a bit cramped and I have to wear a back brace that keeps me from bending too far forward so I'm not sure about a Can Am ...

Any advice you have would be most welcome!

Welcome to the board, I would suggest u talk to some of these guys about the kliktronics (sp) shifter. I would think the can am would not be a good choice due to the fact it appears to me that u have to lean forward when u drive it.
Someone who Owns one might correct me if I am wrong.
I am not sure what I t would be like in Stallion, For a person ur size.

Good luck maybe someone can give u more help than I have....

If you have a bad back you'll need a trike with independent suspension.
I've only owned two Street Trikes, Can Am, And now a T/G.
I love the T/G, But if had a bad back The T/G won't be for me.

Was I right on the riding position for the can-am???? I have never ridden one was only going by what it looked like to me in the pictures I have seen....

I am not above being wrong so please correct me if I am....

YES', The first thing i did was to add 3 inch risers, That helped but in retrospect i should have gone to 4 inch. Another thing no hand brake, All 3 wheels brake with a foot petal.

I am taller 6'3"and bigger then you, my wife has a Stallion that I take out every now and then. I pull out the seat back, then put a rolled up sleeping bag behind me to act as a back rest. My Butt is actually sitting right where the back rest would be. I use a GEL seat pad and it does well. The Sleeping bag is the GI 3 bags in one style so it is fat and fits great. A member on here Big Dog had a custom seat made to fit his legs, do a search on his posts and you will see pictures.

NO matter what you decide on it will be a blast.

I would point you to a TriBurg, the Suzuki Burgman originated by my old company, The Trinity Trike and now being built by Yelvington Trikes (Yelvington Trikes). As a step thru mounting, it is perfect for bad knees (like I have too!) and a bad back. Check it out!!
