K&N Stands By Their Filters

I took my air cleaner cover off yesterday to clean and recharge the filter and noticed the rubber had torn away on the outer surface, at the bottom. Although I realized this probably would not have an affect on the filter or performance I decided to contact K&N as they offer a lifetime warranty. Today I received an email telling me to expect a replacement filter in a couple days. This kind of service is uncommon in these times. Hats off to K&N. i've used them in the past and will continue to in the future ThumbUp.

Speaking of K&N - I'm in the process of setting up a new air cleaner. I installed a V-Ductor recently and it looks way too cool to be hidden behind a cover or air filter outer plate. So I'm 're-wiring it'.

I ordered and received a V&H E-3403 filter, which is open on both ends and will fit over the SE / Big Sucker / K&N / almost everything else backing plate. It's actually a little larger ID than indicated in the specs - but that's better than too small. I'm going to fabricate a plexiglas filter cover, drill and tap 3 10-24 holes in the backing plate 120 deg apart, drill clearance holes in the plexiglas cover on the same pattern, and mount with 10-24 threaded rod and stainless elastic stop nuts. I figured this would look pretty good and show off the V-Ductor, plus be able to see the slide going up and down. In addition the filter has more surface area - it is 3" tall. I will have to place an O-ring or some other spacer on the backing plate to center the filter as the ID is a bit larger than the step on the backing plate plate. I'll remove the stand-offs and attach the backing plate to the carb with short 1/4-20 screws instead. I'll post pics when I finish it, along with performance / MPG differences, if any.
