Corn Gas Conundrum

Ok… What additives, if any, are you guys using to counteract the effects of ethanol in gasoline??

Corn gas is about all that’s available around here locally, and it makes my trike run like total crap. I was out riding last weekend, and by shear luck, I stopped at a Conoco station in Loose Creek, MO to top off. They just happened to have non-ethanol 91 octane fuel. I took on about 4 gals on top of the 2.5 of 91 oct corn gas that was already in the tank, and the difference in the way the trike ran was un-friggin’-believable! Damn thing ran like a scalded cat!

So, if anybody has found an additive that makes a significant difference in performance when running ethanol contaminated gas, I’d sure like to know what it is.

Or, if anyone has made any engine mods that seemed to help, please share those too! I’m running a 1600cc dual port with an Engle 110 cam (pre-Chinese), stock 34 PICT/3 carb and a dual advance dizzy. Everything else is stock. Thinking about a Weber 32/36 2 bbl and a Bosch 009 dizzy…

Doug,

I have been using "Lucas Ethanol Treatment" in all my vehicles for several years and have had no problems with the corn fuel. I use a bottle of "Octane Booster" about every 10 tankfuls.
All my vehicles run very well.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot! I'll let you know if it does the trick!

I tried the Lucas Ethanol Treatment. Ran two tanks with a little more than the directions called for, as they stated that over-application wasn't a problem. There was no appreciable difference in performance or economy. I guess I need to look further at other solutions. I'm wide open to suggestions...

Check out the post by oahe in the "End of corn gas??!!" thread. Oahe says we are all full of it. The bad things attributed the ethanol are just MYTHS.

In case you are still looking for ideas on additives, I found a great product that is available at most Napa stores.
It's made by Starbrite & is called "Star Tron Enzyme fuel treatment".
It comes in 8 oz bottles, is windshield washer blue in color, and it treats approx 48 gallons, ( 1 oz/6 gallons).
I'm sold on it & gladly recommend it if you haven't found anything yet...

I have used the Star-Tron as well and like it very much. I use it in a 1990 Goldwing SE Trike with no engine mods.

Same here. StarTron was not only highly recommended by our local power-equipment repair shop, but also by my Honda service department manager whom I trust 100%!
