Utopia New Jersey USA..
I was at a Slingshot dealer the other day.. And he showed me something interesting.. At least if you live and register it in New Jersey . A license Jersey driver does not need a MC endorsement and is not required to wear a hemet while driving a Slingshot..

That seems to be the trend. Most states classify it as a motorcycle and a few classify it as an auto-cycle. The Polaris Slingshot website has state by state licensing requirement information HERE.

Probably should have, But it's such a hassle getting in and out of it, I'm not as flexible as i once was... If Polaris could design it without the lower roll bar on the drivers side foot [Or a sky-hook to lift myself out ] i would have one... And besides i'm from the old school ' So if i'm ant gonna buy i won't wast the salesman's time..

A lot of states are now classifying the Slingshots as an "auto cycle'. And most don't require mc endorsements thou they're still licensed as motorcycles. Helmet wear is a toss up depending on the various states rules, some require helmets and some don't.

Same in Pa. as of August 1, 2016 - according to the dealer. We bought a red SL on 7/2/16.

Congrats.....ThumbUp....And just a heads up, Keep a copy of the Regulations with the Slingshot, Very few if any cops know the rules on the slingshot....That might save you a trip to court to get a ticket dismissed.

The reason you don't need a helmet or a motorcycle endorsement is probably because it is not a motorcycle. What motorcycle has a steering wheel, a clutch and accelerator on the floor, a firewall or seat belts a roll cage,a Pontiac 4 cyl. The question is why would anyone think it's anything but a automobile
