Spyer RT to TriGlide?

Yo all. Been thinking of going from a 2021 Spyder RT to a 2019 Harley TriGlide ultra.

Would like to hear from others that might have done this. Was it the right decision or did you regret it?

Have always ridden Harleys before, but age has me on a Trike now. OK by me, I'm still in the wind.

Welcome to Trike Talk..Frank 👍👍…. two different animals Frank I went from a 2008 Spyder to a 2011 Triglide ‘I always felt the Spyder was like riding a toy where as a Triglide felt more like a motorcycle right now I have a 2019 Triglide…. that’s sad. The spider was more powerful road much better/smoother, and had an honest to goodness reverse… but it had no soul…

Ain't that the truth! No soul. Not trying to offend any Spyder Riders, but most see to be clueless about riding, bike culture and the like. No one hangs at the CanAm dealership, whereas I can stop at the Harley Dealer and always kick up a conservation with someone hanging out.

So Rhino, do you regret not having the RT or does the TriGlide hit all your buttons?

For the most part…. but if I was Emperor, of the Harley corporation, I would add independent suspension and a true reverse. I can’t think of much more. I’ve reached a point in life where I stopped in Monkeying Around with my machines, . The Triglide I have now is almost completely stock, and I don’t plan on playing with it just ride it, And enjoy it ..

I sort of echo the comments made by Rhino. Given that, please consider a Harley that has an aftermarket conversion - CSC-Roadsmith-Hannigan-MotorTrike. I believe you will find the independent suspension worthwhile.

I have a 2021 Ultra that was converted by CDC. Has all that I need, including an 11 degree rake and a reverse.

Go rent a Tri Glide for a day. And see if your really missing something other than a Ego. Check out the 1000 page accessary catalog & see what it cost to paint that blank canvas as the dealer says to make it your own .

You are so right. Harley has a "soul" but no IRS and for all practical purposes no reverse.

I've had two Tri-Glides a 2013 and a 2021. The 2021 is much better than the 2013 was - now I'm waiting to see what they will come out with down the road.

I've looked into adding IRS - upwards of $6k. Also looked at the Motor Trike reverse - about $2.5K installed. Spendy options.

So, the problem is if they added a factory IRS & a real reverse the cost would be prohibitive for most riders.

Not really those prices for the independent suspension and the reverse are outside vendors accessories made in very limited numbers if they were to put them on at the (mass produced) from the factory It would not cost as much…. don’t forget as of now they have to have a rear axle shock, absorbers, and a reverse already in it so whatever that cost they would just deduct it off the price of the new stuff..

Just adding - when I triked my Ultra, it had less than 800 miles on it. So, I was able to sell the take-off parts for around $4K.

Imagine just how much the cost could have been reduced it the parts were never on there?

P1050685.jpgI guess I am going to swim upstream here and recommend the Spyder over The TriGlide. I rode 2 wheelers for nearly 50 years (Not Harley, mostly British then Yamaha) before going to a trike. My first trike was a Honda Goldwing conversion, with solid rear axel. I put 40,000 miles on that trike. It was ok but that bike had no soul. During that time, I test rode a Tri Glide every year at Demo Days. They all rode the same as my Honda but steered like a dump trucks. In 2015 I rode a Spyder RT. It rode great, had good power, and I could throw it in to a cure pretty hard. I bought it,and I have never looked back. 78,000 miles later it is still as fun as it was when I bought it. I still look forward to riding it every chance I get. As far as hanging out at the dealership, well you can't do that with any brand anymore, except Harley. That is something we did back in the day, and those days are gone. Soul, well I think my Spyder has soul. It talks to me when we ride. Since it is now 12 years old is is a little grumpy first thing in the day, and it complains sometimes on a long ride put it also really likes a nice curvy canyon road or a good stretch off secondary roads where we can just cruise along. No, it will never have the culture that surrounds Harley. But it is still a great ride. But it's your money and your ride, so your choice. Whatever you decide enjoy it and post pictures.

Had a 2014 Spyder RT till the H-D M8 engine came out. Bought a 2017 TG. Never looked back. Spyder was fun to ride. Couldn't keep tires on it. Put 18K on it, 3 pair of front tires and two rear tires. Throw in some other issues and the TG looked real good. Have 66K on the TG.
