Transmission Oil Lever

Changed the trans oil over to Redline Heavy Shockproof. The service manual for Touring says do NOT thread the dipstick into the tranny case to check level. If I do this, nothing shows on the dipstick. The TriGlide supplement service manual says DO thread it in. This shows the level just right with one quart of juice in it. I would think the process should be the same for Touring and Tri's as it is the same tranny. What am I missing or is one of the service manuals wrong?

ps. Redline did nothing to quiet down the noise and clanging.

The touring bikes are on a kickstand when checking the trany level and the Tri glides are setting level when checking the trany level. Somebody just missed this when they printed the manuals. Threading the dipstick all the way in is correct for the Tri glide.

I switched to the Redline also, and my dealer even said it was a good idea. and it made an immediate difference in smoother and quieter shifting, and still does. Not sure why yours wouldnt?

Been reading this,so i went out to garage & just looked at both my manuals, mine are just the opposite of yours.Do not screw in on trikes,do on bikes.rap47 did you ask a dealer or are your manuals different?thanks

its been that way on all the harleys I have owned..Just rest the threads of the dipstick on the threads and then look at the oil level

Thanks for posting that service bulletin rap47, I made a copy fro my FM and one for my owners manual. Jimdog, I switched to Shockproof Heavy too and I couldn't tell any difference either. And this isn't the first EG I've tried SP Heavy on. It's no doubt good oil but it ain't a miracle worker.
