hi guys and gals
i haven't been here for a while...caught up in life i guess...
OK i have bought a 3.8 and 4t65e trans-axle for my trike build..will be rear engine(most of weight just in front of rear axle) this drive train came out of 1998 Pontiac grand prix and i have the factory cradle will use it i think as starting point we'll see.. will be using 1 3/4 inch Dom (11gauge) tubing for main frame tubing..i'm planning on home built leading link front end 40-45 degree neck,...8.5-9 foot wheel base...i have been researching this build and could not find any info on it so I'll party on!! , but I'm open to any input/advice if you have any... will post some pics. in near future...mike

well i got my jig/stand squared and plum... engine/trans axle squared up and tacked down..and i got a few things gethered up today.. picked up front wheel 18x3 mag twin 11.5 rotors and ordering p.m. disc brake calipers ...will be looking up rear wheels today...i think i need wheels and tires to do a little visualizing then draw it up.. so i can order and then bend up some tubing!!

OK i just picked myself up off the floor after looking up price on pm caliber wow over $400 bucks!!! 1 chrome still in da package 0053-2919 pm caliper and full floating rotor came with the 18x3"take off victory front wheel i bought from defunked victory dealer!!! so what do you guys think about just running one rotor/cal on front wheel?? the 550 -600 bucks to do other side will buy a lot of tubing!!!mike
PS pics are coming i have them on dig. camera but my home pc died and this old laptop dell d610 doesn't recognize the camera...need driver?? i don't know...mike

hi guys
well I got a few things done on trike project..
I got ss steel headers installed have bought a high flow frame mounted fuel pump, new radiator, aluminum fuel tank, 3.4" pulley to spin the supercharger a little harder!! and 18inch wheel for front end... and my steel for frame is in!! I bought 2x2x1/8 wall tubing to build cage around eng./trans as well as rad and fuel tank...the rest of the frame will be 1&1/2 inch .120 wall d.o.m. tubing will get it picked up this week. I am currently working on pcm wiring for v6 its a hand full but a'm getting there when wiring is done i'll send pcm of to be re-programmed to meet the needs of the trike...
I am going to build leading link front end but that is a ways off!
added some pcs. you can kinda see the jig I built to assemble trike frame on as well as some of my parts.. more pics to come as frame gets rock'n!!
later magoo

I think as far as the extra rotor on front , may be how you intend to ride it one will stop , two will be better . You are running disc on back right . I don't run any on front but I drive knowing that and try to stay out of trouble , so far so good . It's mainly for the looks in my case but know it's not the safest way , never been accused of being to safe . ;)

You can always build it with one and add later if it doesn't work out .So good luck and keep us posted your using my favorite running gear for this one .ThumbUp

hey slick rick...

gota tell ya I dig your trike!! vary clean brother !!

I'll try and do at least half that good!!!!

yes disc on rear...will set mine up for dual disc front even if I don't have both when I start front end ... I have had 2 bikes with springer in the past I still like them I just want to experiment with shock valving and spring rate on a leading link front end if it turns out I don't like it ill build springer ya cant beat springer for looks in my mind but i'll try and make the leading link look cool!!

I am working on drawings for frame ..refine what a drew up to get ball park for metal order.. I lot of small things keep coming to mind in order to get this thing running ,, like computer reprograming ... I talked to zz performance they will reprogram ecm for me that's a load of my mind.

I don't want any extra stuff in ecm that I don't need for this trike..

like security key and a few other things that don't make it go fast!!

they will set it up for the boost and air flow that I'm work'n for,, good folks to deal with.. at this stage of this build all I'm doing is throwing $$ at it!!

more later magoo

ThumbUp,,,Yep can't wait to see how it goes !!!From all I've read the LL is the best front end for one of these ,,the springer is a little harsh in the curves but just looks cool as hell . I'm a old school nerd when it comes to scooters but WE GOTTA BE "SUMPIN" and it requires me slowing down a bit in the curves with the springer but I don't do much racing these days .:Dorag:

Don't forget those pics I want to see the progress , may even want to copy like I said you've chose my favorite running gear and it should kick arse .:D

Hadn't heard anything about your build in a few days everything still going okay I guess . ,Keep those pics coming .:clapping:By the way thanks for the comments I wish I could take credit for the build but can't even though I am making a few changes . I wanted a 3.8 if this motor goes bad but according to Kennedy Adapters the ford engine is smoother with their adapters ,,,time will tell and this one may be with me a while .

hey man I been work'n on it

torn into comp. wiring for engine/trans...I never worked on ecm that also controlled trans,,,i

t may not be over my head but my ears are wet:xzqxz:

I have some more wire diagrams coming may help if not i'll farm it out...

I did harness for ford 5.0 and 4.6 but had all the diagrams I needed as its not my expertise i'll cross my fingers and move on.

i will cut steel for cage around engine/trans Monday so things are moving on...once cage around eng/trans is ruffed out I will finalize frame drawing..sounds easy enough ;)

ThumbUp,,Sounds like you got a grip on it but we all need help at times . I'm a little hard headed at times and want to do it my way only to be bit in the butt . Then on the other hand when you pull it off and it's right ,,,ThumbUp HEYYYYYYY !!!

Keep us updated very interested my friend in your build . ThumbUpThumbUp

well I got most of the transmission to ecm wiring sorted out .. I think??? well maybe .take a look

1 shows the c1 and c2 connectors for ecm..and all trans wiring pull out and labeled

2 shows all solenoid wiring coming out of trans labeled

3 shows wiring that is associated with shift linkage mode park low etc.

4 shows the the same stuff as 1. but wife put my mug in this one...

progress is slow with this part but I am moving in the right direction

I feel better about wiring now I have removed about 1/2 the unneeded factory stuff will probably wait until ecm is reprogramed to remove the rest..

next week frame should get rock'n
