Motor Trike Kit

Does anybody have comments ....pros or cons about this model of Trike kit vs. Hannigan, Lehman or Champion?

zavy - Motor Trike makes many different kits, for about 6 different brand bikes (for example, there are 4 different models listed for a GL1800 alone)(click on MT ad in right hand column of this page). Need a little more info - what brand/model bike you are converting, do you want solid axel or IRS, any preference regarding width & wheelbase, etc. Other than that we will just be resuming the "verbal war" of "mine is the best". :D

Also, have you searched the forum for the "jillion" posts already here on this (or similar) subject?

Everyone has different taste i guess . Your comments about the drive are not very well researched. MT does have grease nipples and lots of shafts are designed to run offset.......

The shorter the bike the better the turn radius and the independent suspension does the ride justice in my view .

Please tell me where to find these posts..thx

I just settled on and completed a MT conversion on a Harley FLH. I am very pleased so far. I did a lot of my research here. Just use the "Advanced Search" in the upper right corner and search for "Motor Trike" in the different forums. Lots of info already posted. Personally, I prefer the look and turn radius of the shorter wheelbase. Also, to me they have less of the old man's trike look. MT also has a outstanding performance, reliability and support reputation. However, tastes and opinions vary, and are personal to the eye of the beholder. As with all kits the quality of the installation / installer is just as critical as the kit chosen!

I'm a disgruntled customer ... I'll say, I'll never buy another one. I like the looks, (the reason I bought it in the first place), mechanically they have had a few hiccups, (drive shaft problems being one), but my problem has been mostly installation problems and after market support (or lack thereof). I've been in contact with two different installers and it seemed neither one of them knew the product very well, and the original didn't know how to properly put together the product, in the first place,... but took my money, for a job not done (IMHO). I guess the parent company doesn't have a problem with this as these dealers are still in business as far as I know, and the parent company won't let you purchase a kit without going through a dealer. I'd be looking at the Roadsmith if I was to do it again. I don't believe in letting a company get me twice.

The MT installer would be 9 hours away from me and the Roadsmith guy is very close. Thanks for the post. This really makes me worried about MT product.

An installer being in reasonable distance is a big consideration no matter what brand. Especially if you are not a very good wrench yourself. I have two MT installers within a 90 minute drive. The one I used is 30 minutes away. You can find a reported problem with all the kits. Service availability is a big consideration.

Sent you a PM. You have a Hannigan dealer about 2hrs from you. You owe to yourself to at least test one before making your decision!

Made my decision and have ordered the new Roadsmith kit. Installer lives close by. I like the practical use of proven parts on it. I did not order the Accuride but ordered the option to set the load adjustment. Hope to be riding it by mid April.

Enjoy the process. Drop in on your builder often. You will learn a lot about your trike. Take pics of the process. Fun to have to look back on, and show others the morphing. Deal with the ants in your pants to ride until Spring! Congrats!

I don't know what you have ended up doing or not.
But Id buy another MT trike in a heart beat.
Ive had mine for over a year and had some issues do to mainly I believe the PO not maintaing a thing.
He probably just put in gas and went.
Motor trike has the best customer service of ANY company Ive had to deal with.
I use my trike to commute to work daily.
The nearest dealer to me is 140 miles away.
Id still buy another tomorrow.:)

I have Their IRS on my Stratoliner. It is a great axle and body. The air compressor controller is worthless. Can't see the display in daytime. Does not have very good service and support. No parts book or schematics supplied. Not very friendly tech support.

I'm looking at a used MT conversion built in 2010-11. Only has 1800 miles on it. any inherent problems from that year regarding the Motor trike kit? Adventure Kit with IRS.

The only problem I know of is the driveshaft. MT has revised that shaft three times now. The latest version is a real winner!! They put a lot of thought into this one and it will do the job very well. I under stand that if you contact MT they are replacing the shaft on the Adventure kits for free. You might have to pay the labor (I did mine myself) but that's a small price for peace of mind. :xszpv: :xszpv:
