Stay away from Motor Trike and 234 Motorsports

I have determined I need to share my experiences with others so perhaps they may reconsider buying any products from Motor Trike Inc. and 2-3-4 Motorsports. 907 S. Eagle Valley Rd , Wingate, PA 16823, owner Doug Miles, which is the dealer I paid and dealt with here in PA.

The short version is, I converted my 2008 HD SE Ultra Classic to a trike, 234 Motorsports picked up my bike end of March 2015 delivered it back on July 6, 2015. Within 1 mile on my initial ride the bike broke down and was eventually towed to Erie Harley-Davidson to figure out what had happen. Like I said short version as most of the information you won't believe , but it's true, and I have pictures to prove it.

The first issue we found was the clutch was put back together by 234 Motorsport with, hold on, flat washers and super glue. The reason being was that Motor Trike Inc. supplied the dealer the wrong clutch rod in the kit. Basically it was a 1/2 inch short, and the dealer used flat washers like you would find at a hardware store to shim the slave cylinder , in the Master cylinder a washer had been also super glued to the plunger which eliminated the free play.

Then I take the bike out for a test drive, only to find out I only have a right turn signal working and a brake light on the hand side not on the foot brake. It appears that 234 Motorsports had attached the wiring in the rear fenders on the wall with "Duck Tape" thus the wires fell down, rubbed against the tire and were cut thus no rear lights.

I paid over $20,000 to 234 Motorsports to build my bike, but I then had to pay the Erie Harley- Davidson Dealer and others approximately $3,000 to find and fix problems that were not there fault, during their busy summer season. As of Oct 3, 2015 the bike is finally safe to ride and I will be heading to Daytona Beach. My bike and pictures of all I have described will be in front of the Motor Trike Inc. display in October and again in March at Bike Week 2016 for all to see.

Based on Motor Trike Inc. customer service dept representative, Richard, I was to take the bike to the Harley Dealer, they have not offered a penny in covering my costs and nether has 234 Motorsports , because somehow it's my fault they used super glue, flat washers and duck tape to assemble my bike.

So the 2015 Motorcycle ridding season was a lost one for me here in Erie, PA

Not a Motortrike Dealer

2 out of 3 of your posts have been a bash at the dealer and Motortrike.

There are some "not so good" dealer/installers out there making some bad reputations.

Did you ever leave a window down and it rained ?
Did you ever put diesel fuel in the gas tank ?

This is a HELP site not a FREE FIRE range....;)

Some people have bad experience with dealers, as I did with my first trike, however motortrike sent me to another dealer an corrected my problem. I am on my second motortrike that Shawnee Honda of Shawnee Oklahoma built and have been very pleased. Sounds like you have a problem with your installer. Wish you the best of luck.

The man is paying thousands of dollars for something he will treasure and risks getting flamed and ridiculed for having the balls to tell the story. I give him a ThumbUp.

I feel bad for anyone who has been screwed over by an unscrupulous dealer and I'm not completely opposed to a person voicing their negative experience as a warning to others, but long ago we established a general policy against the open flaming of dealers and manufacturers, especially from new posters who have obviously joined the forum solely to exact revenge upon their dealer or manufacturer. This forum was not created to be used as a weapon of retribution whether justified or not and we will not be used for that purpose. If we didn't keep a handle on such posts, they would run rampant.

Case in point, another (good) member who has had a completely legitimate complaint with his dealer has started 12 separate complaint threads that have garnered dozens of posts. Justified or not, that is overkill. I don't want to have to start deleting any and all complaint threads, I would like to see a person exhaust all means to rectify their issues directly with the offender before bringing it to the forum. When and if you do, do not start multiple threads or make duplicate posts or they will all be deleted.

Sorry, But please understand , I have made over 12 phone calls, sent copies of all receipts , photos over the past 2 months.

I am just letting others know my experience , they can make there own judgement and perhaps not make the same mistake I made

I did file this morning in small claims court, and surprise at noon I get a call from the dealer telling me he still working on it, I assume he has read this weekends "blogs"

You probably shouldn't of started your thread with "Stay Away ... " ... from the get go it comes off as bashing ... kinda doesn't give people the opportunity to make up their own mind.

Not trying to flame you or anything, just explaining where you went wrong. If you truly just stated your experience and left it up to people to decide, no harm no foul. "Stay Away ... " in the thread title is a red flag. MHO

Go for it as this is sometimes the only way to get the word out. When I purchased my trike it was messed up at the 1st service by the dealer. After calling the factory and explaining the issue and that they worked on it twice,I was told to get it out of there (their words). They recommended another dealer so I took it there. He supposedly fixed the issue. Well I was still having the issue. When you would come to a stop and then go either brake caliper would stick pulling the trike to the left or the right when accelerating from a dead stop. The dealer basically got me and the factory at odds because the factory was believing the dealer that I was imagining the issue and all was OK.

Now mind you I have a brand new factory built trike with less than 1000 miles on it. Winter comes and goes and come springtime I find another dealer willing to look at her. This dealer wound up replacing the back brake calipers and fixing what the factory forgot to finish. The dealer sent the factory a 3 page report with pics of what the factory didnt install correctly or at all and what they repaired in the brakes to fix the issue. I was very surprised to see how bad the install by the factory on my trike was.

The sad part is at the time the going joke was they had the best of the best doing HD installs and the best of the rest doing all other brands. After this dealer worked on my trike all of the issues were gone including where the factory didnt even silicone seal the trunk holes where cables ran through. You get screwed because the dealer and factory talk to each other and now youre the bad guy even though youre the customer. My atitude is if they wont work with you do whatever it takes and if you have to go to the forums do it. If you have a good forum thats looking out for its members and not one whos paid for by the industry theyll be behind you . For the rest of you who have never had an issue with your trikes count your stars.

as a potential trike conversion purchaser in the future I like to know about good and bad experiences. Okay maybe he bashed a little too hard but sometimes we have to get stuff out of our system and I think it is important to know about the bad experience someone had with a particular conversion process and those who did the conversion.

We have all have bad experiences from time to time. And wanting to share that experience for the benefit of others is in and of itself not a problem. But starting your story with “Stay away from” is kind of like walking up to someone and starting a conversation by saying 'I don’t mean to be an ass hole, but……'

Congratulations Im glad it worked out for you. If more people would speak up like you on the forums when theyve been screwed by an installer or manufacturer it might light a fire under some of these people.
