    Default Fuel Mileage

From about Abilene,Ks to Dallas,TX we had headwinds that were between 25-35mph. We were running between 70-75mph. Averaged a paltry 24mpg. We weigh 320 and have about 120lbs of gear on board. Just thought that is interesting.

Did Joplin to Tulsa once. Doing 80 mph. Temp close to freezing. A lot of wind. Got 22 mpg. Usually with high winds, I can't get any kind of speed with the stock TG. Even at slower speeds, wind makes the mileage drop by quite a bit.
BTW, I did the calculations last year. Over 1000 miles, going a higher speed but getting lower gas mileage is still faster even with extra gas stops.

Wind will certainly affect gas mileage; The fenders and rear box of Triglide is like a big sail holding it back

I've often thought, if trike designers could just redesign to a more aerodynamic fender, what a difference that would make.

Our trike is geared quite a bit higher than a 2011-later Tri-Glide, 32/68 vs 30/70. I've found that running it in 5th gear, instead of 6th, gas mileage will actually improve 1-2mpg.

Sherry and I were in OKC, yesterday. Driving back home, that headwind was really strong.

Hey bikerbillone...If someone could just eliminate one of the back wheels and maybe put it inline with the front wheel,,we could get better gas mileage...But I think it would fall over when you stop ??
With that being said, I love my 2015 Tri-Glide and really don't worry much about gas mileage....We spend 35/40 thousand dollars on a toy and then you worry about a few bucks in gas ???? Just enjoy the ride and don't overthink things.

The cost of gas doesn't bother me in the least...As a matter of fact i wish my Tri-Glide had a 60 gallon tank...This way i wont have to stop at gas stations so often . Every time i stop for gas someone comes over to talk to me, And most times it isn't about Trikes. It could be something simple as the Cost of Tea in China... Or did you hear what the Pope said today?. Most people that hang around gas stations at all hours are part of the great unwashed...And some of them i think i recognize from an epode of Cops..

Trust me folks..I have owned our trike for 6 years...I just thought that pushing that wall of air coming at me at 35 and me going 75 and getting 24mpg was interesting..not concerning. I tried drafting a tractor trailer..but to get the buffeting to subside, I needed to be between 20-40' away..not gonna do it!

With 2 up, I have got as good as 42 mpg and as low as 28mpg. Wind, speed, and elevation makes for a lot of changes. I just ride and when it needs fuel, I start looking for somewhere to fuel up. Jim

Rhino, You hit upon a very important problem of being on the road. Being a former forensic/prison psychologist, I see a lot of "sketchy" people hanging around gas stations as I traverse around the country. I often times feel more vulnerable during gas stops than any other time on the road. I generally give these folks a glaring stare that suggests I do not want to be messed with and they move on. I in no way am interested in striking up conversations with these people. Predators are generally looking for soft targets and won't mess with someone who appears able and ready to defend themselves. The large Interstate gas stations have a difficult time controlling the riff-raff that drifts through their properties so it is incumbent on us to individually be very aware of our surroundings at all times while stopped in strange territory.

I always leave my helmet on while pre-paying and fueling up. Helmet head buting will be the plan with a quick ball shot followed by a throat chop. Then a quick getaway. Hopefully the plan will never halfto be exercised.

FW is lighter and not as bulky as a tri, but wind gets it too. I've gotten everything between 29 to 47 MPG. Average since I bought her is 37.3...

Riding down to Kerrville, Thursday, for the Hill Country Gathering, we fought really strong headwinds, too. Normally, we can drive that distance (320 miles) on two tanks of gas. Thursday, it took three tanks @25mpg. Coming home yesterday with a slight tailwind, we used two tanks of fuel.

Considering that I just got my Road glide trike, I was very curious about what type of mileage I would get. I filled my first tank of gas yesterday and calculated that I was getting 34 MPG. That is 2 up 90% of the time and mixed driving between city and hwy.

I am like some of the others here. I do not worry about mileage, when it needs gas I buy it. It is a toy and like the Champion boat with a 200 mercury I owned it was all about the fun I am/was having. the champ used alot of gas at 72 miles an hour.

    Hey Capt. Bob

I spent a lot of my younger years in the DEA, so I am legally loaded for bear no matter what state I am in. I get a lot of people walking up and talking about the trike, bikes, Harleys and all sorts of things at gas stations, restaurants and motels. I enjoy talking to people and the few minutes of break it gives.

I have never once felt threatened from this and I know what to look for.

I just don't think that most predators would think that anyone on a serious motorcycle (scooters not included) would be a "soft" target, male or female. Even most Lot lizards avoid MC riders.

I am not arguing with you, I am just saying that I enjoy the very thing that concerns you.

On the flip side of this, my Lady says most men avoid me like the Plague. Who knows?

Maybe it's the eye patch and the twin Colt Pythons

About 10 years ago a local was filling up at a gas station, a couple of punks approached HER with knives and told her to hand over her purse.

She pulled the nozzle out of the tank and pointed it at them and squeezed. ROFL They ran off covered in gasoline.
