What part is this?

As I've posted on here recently that I've had an issue with my driver intercom so I decided to go looking. I thought the most obvious place was beneath the left hand storage box on the shelter. When I pulled the box out the first thing I say was this! Now I'm already stumped. Any help here, the label was damaged by tape when I removed it. This black box is connected inline with the bikes red terminal in that area. It also has a knob like piece on one end that rotates. You can see that knob pointing toward the CB button in the picture. I assume this is some sort of adjustment. The little insignia on the box meant nothing to me as I didn't recognize it. Thanks in Advance

Sorry ... I can't say I recognize it. Other then a couple of wires going to the accessory connector, where do the other wires go ???

Could it be some sort of speedo-healer ??? However, usually speedo-healers are found under the right pocket closer to the speed sensor wire.

As for the intercom problem, in almost all cases, such problems are due to aftermarket stuff such as the 2 aux. cords to each helmet, or the audio stuff in the helmet itself. It's usually best to start by seeing what happens with trying 2 know good helmets and cords.

Sorry Greg, I was hoping it was a pretty commonly used part and a general description would suffice.

I did trace a wire down that comes out of the end of the black box. It appears it goes to the small plug in on my GPS. The GPS on this bike does transmit through the Intercom system.

Interesting ... I've never knew there was such a thing. Chances are you found the aftermarket part that is probably causing your problem.

Just a follow up to Gregs thoughts. I called Sierra today an discussed this part with them. Who ever I was speaking with said even if the part in question was defective it wouldn't or couldn't cause my driver intercom issues. He even gave me a couple of the most likely places to look to find my problem.

This is another case of Sierra Electronics being very willing to help.

Can you share where they recommended you look ???

Certainly Greg, to bring everyone up to date my driver intercom would quit. A scenario would be wife and I plug our headsets up and head out for a ride and all would be fine. Usually within the first 30 minutes or so my intercom would quit. I can hear the radio, CB, and the wife talking to me but she can't hear me. A few minutes or so later usually for no reason my intercom would start working again for no know reason. Once it started working after we crossing a very rough expansion joint other than that time we cannot fine any reason why it suddenly starts working. Some days this happens several times some days not at all.

Greg back to your question. The man who answered the phone said to rule out the headsets and cords first which has been done. Next check the main ground near the actual gas tank. I got the impression that this is a trouble spot and needs to be cleaned up whether or not it's a part of my problem or not. Next the red pigtails on the bike (one for driver & one for passenger) are identical. Check the connections for corrosion first and then you can even swap them out. See if problem moves with the swap.

Greg, I hope I paraphrased his instructions accurately as he went to great lengths asking me questions in helping diagnose my problem.
