Used Tri-glide or Kit?

I've been thinking of a trike conversion for my 2010 FLHTCU for several years now and was a bit surprised at the cost. It seems like there a lot of choices for a new kit ,Motor Trike, Hannigan, Roadsmith, CSC, etc. I just got an estimate for a couple and it seems that the kit with the options I would want , reverse, triple tree, paint, etc would cost around $15,000. I was then wondering if I would be just as well off to trade my 2010 Ultra in for a newer Tri-glide. It seems that my Ultra and the $15,000 saved from the kit could give me a fairly nice Trike. I would be losing my low milage Ultra and all the options but?... As of now the Motor Trike is at the top of my list, any thoughts?

Hey Jim,

Good luck with your analysis. There are many opinions available, but you will ultimately have to make the decision.ThumbUp

Welcome to Trike-Talk Jim..:wave4:....Its a tough decision to make, And only you can make it...

That said, I would sell the bike and get a Tri-Glide that already is put together...

I would look into tri's ... there are loads of them with <10k miles for a lot less than new. Also, if possible, ride both. Then go with your heart. I understand the sentimental attachment to a bike you own, but you might be able to trade up to a tri and maybe still have some warrantee left. JMHO

Welcome Jim from Southeastern Tennessee... I would be another vote to sell the Ultra and buy a Tri Glide... Some great used deals are out there...

+4...I agree with these 3. Just go see what kind of trade they will give you, and when you get your best deal, make moving some of your 'extras' over the new TG, if they'll transfer over.

:welcome: to TT Jim!

Back in 2008 when I was getting ready to trike my Ultra I was asking the same question as you. Dollars and cents wise it was a easy choice. Factory warranty on a New Tri Glide or have more $$ into it with no warranty. I went with the TriGlide.

Hands down sell the old friend and make a new friend with all the bells and whistles that come along with it. Make sure you get an extended service plan.. I would never convert one. I have no Idea of your age but I'm past the age of the adventure of conversions headaches. just sayin... There are great conversions out there it is an personal choice. Good luck on your choice....:Coffee: Travel safely Fred

Helpful Advice Received, Thank you!!!!

I want to thank all those who have helped me with my decision whether to convert my Ultra or trade. Following the insight I gained from yopur posts

I traded my 2010 FLHTCU for a new Harley Tri Glide. Tennessee has a 9.25% sales tax so I leaned towards trading my Ultra in to save over $1,000

in tax which is not charged on the trade in value. I also discovered that my dealer would not come down on the list price of the Trike, it seems that with

the new engine and other changes they are able to sell them at list now, just like back in '97 when I bought my Heritage Springer. My dealer did however give me a very good price for my Ultra and did consider the condition and extras so I think I came out as good or better than if I had tried to sell it outright.

Now more good news, I love it. I've been putting off going with a trike for years and now after owning it for almost a whole two days my wife and I both think I should have done it years ago. The transition to 3 wheels was quick and the steering even after some 50 years on 2 wheels came easy, actually seemed natural. Just gotta watch the fenders going into the garage.

CONGRATS Jim you made the right decision because you are happy. Glad you went like a duck to water. Ride safe and get out there and "RIDE"

I traded my Road King for a Freewheeler 2 1/2 years ago for many of the same reasons you traded for your trike. I used yellow marking paint from Home Depot on the driveway to remind myself that I had 2 wheels following me into my motorcycle garage. It does look like a taxiway so I did have several people ask me what that was all about, just gave me an excuse to show off my new ride.

Lola I love the taxiway stripping. Good Job
