Changing fluids today and had one of the Torx head screw strip out.

I have a Dremel and a drill going to try to cut a slot to get a screwdriver in first and it that doesn't work I will drill the head off.

+1 on the impact driver

If you have a hand held impact driver it would sure make breaking that screw loose, good luck with it

Impact tools like that are rarely used but sure come in handy, I have owned one for over 40 years. It has saved my bacon more than once. good luck Fred

I too hate torx

I found putting a bit of antisieze on the bit gives you more grip

Torx heads are just not deep enough IMO

I like to replace them with allens, if they have the captive washers on the bolts a bit of lube on the washers helps to keep the bolts from gaullling in the chrome JMO

If you are real careful you can walk the bolt lose with a pin punch and hammer A little trick my dad showed me years ago

Got it out

Ended up grinding the head off with a Dremel tool. Nicked the Derby cover some but not bad, I will have to add a new one to my Christmas list.

Once I got the derby cover off the rest of the screw came right out with my fingers.

Found a Black allen head screw I had laying around the shop to put in it until I find something better to replace the torx screws with.

Thanks for all the responses.

Bob

So nobody uses an easy-out?

jc

Only when I have to

On thru holes like this I would sooner than a blind hole, But if u ever break 1 u will regret it

TOO much drilling IMO by the time u size the easy out I would drill and retap the hole and be done with it

Dont get me wrong, I have a set of SnapOn Spline drive easy outs and I do use them
