Let there be Light

For my first ride on my new Trike we went to Cooks Corner for a Friday night preview of the builds that were going to be at Born Free the next day. When we went to leave it was well after dark and one of the guys had a problem with his headlight. None of us had a flashlight so someone suggested using the light in our cell phones...duh. But because it was dark I had to fumble around in my Tour-Pak just to find the phone.

I decided I need a light in the top box and the next day was ready to pull the trigger on the Tour-Pak interior light kit for $119. But that is a lot of cash and it looks like it needs to be wired in. So I decided to take a different route.

I have a little LED light, the Larry by Nebo, and I made a bracket out of aluminum that I then JB Welded to the inside of the lid. It can be stored there and used there at night. Since then I found another light (see link) that is twice as bright, has strong magnets on the clip AND the base and is made out of aluminum where the Larry is made of plastic.

The light is plenty bright to illuminate the contents of the Tour-Pak, and the magnets are strong enough to securely stick to metal and be used in the case of a night time break down.

The top box light worked so good that I decided it might be a good idea to have some light in the trunk as well.

I found this 72 LED light on amazon (see link) that looked like it might fit on the underside of the trunk roof. Turned out to fit like a glove. I added a strip of velcro to the back of the light and the other half to the underside of the trunk. Now I have an easy to use trunk light that is easy activate and remove to use elsewhere or to replace the AA batteries. Not too bad for $16.00.

Picked up 2 Reda Lights (same fellow that makes the red saddle bag gas cans) at Sturgis last year. They work great. Some what on the same concept of what you have. They have clips that you install in the tour-pac and in the trunk area. You can pull them out of the clips to fit into a stand for an emergency light or night light..

Thank you for that link. The Reda light looks like it would mount right to the Tour Pac rack bolts for a very clean and secure mount. I just ordered one....I LIKE lights :D

I got the Reda light today, and it was a super easy install. It just uses two of the bolts that hold the rack to the Tour Pac. The second pic is with the Reda light, and the third pic is with the Green Larry light on. The Reda with three large LED's puts out almost as much light as the Larry does with 12 smaller LED's.
